Wow, for the first time, i'll be able to watch our first championship. Dont think its ever been on. Is it a good game to watch for more than just the win? Exciting?

The Duncan - Sprewell shootout in the third/fourth is fantastic.

Never was the difference more apparent than in Game 5 when Sprewell and Duncan combined for what may well have been the most spectacular five minutes and 49 seconds in NBA Finals history. During that stretch that began with 2:07 left in the third quarter, Duncan and Sprewell scored 28 of the 29 points produced by the two teams. Sprewell had 14 consecutive Knicks points and Duncan countered with 14 of the 15 Spurs' points.

The two dominated in distinctive styles that were as different as Michael Jordan and Bill Russell, and so extraordinary were their respective performances that such comparisons were, for once, not overstated.

Sprewell sometimes controlled the ball from end-to-end and finished plays with an athletic and acrobatic flourish not seen since His Airness departed after the 1998 Finals. Whether it was a fallaway, three-pointer, driving layup or a jumper off a screen, Sprewell displayed a complete game that was pure Jordan.

Duncan had less flash but equal effectiveness as he hit his signature bank shots from 13 and seven feet, scored on a turnaround baseline jumper, executed a dazzling spin move and scored in the lane and threw in one 12-foot jump hook for good measure. He was so precise, fundamentally proficient and dominant on the inside that it was not an exaggeration to describe the performance as Russell-like.

"It was a terrific battle by two terrific players," said Spurs guard Mario Elie after the game. "Spree just was rolling tonight. But man, when you've got a 7-footer shooting 18-foot bank shots -- that's amazing."

Yep. Sprewell was so good in that series, and that sequence was amazing. He had a chance going to the basket on the inbounds to steal that game at the end too.

Well, change your signature to "one of" then.

I just find it a bit of an insult given the history of my Spurs fandom (2 trips to SA to watch games, been to practice and met players and coaches, met DRob, have many friends in SA, been a fan for 20 years, etc.), and that of some others around here. Even with all that, I don't claim to be the "biggest" Spurs fan in Australia because, well, who knows?

oh christ... who cares. once i have the opportunity, i'll be over in a flash.
how you can find that to be an insult confuses me. lighten up.. im a spurs fan too, not a lakers fan.. fuck

I care, that's why I've raised it. I could turn the question on you and ask why are you so wedded to it when it's a load of bullshit? It's false advertising and basic disrespect.

As I said, change it to "one of" and I won't want to throw a brick through the screen every time I see it. I don't want to dislike you, but every time I see that I do, because it's disingenuous.

I was told by a friend that the Memorial Day Miracle Game v Portland was going to be televised on ONE.

Was he mistaken? Is it this game instead?

I saw the Knicks/Spurs series a couple months back when I got my 16 dvd boxset of the Spurs championship games.... this was one of the better games to watch.

Damn

Spree was an amazing player

Damn, and the Spurs were so close to trading for him in 98. I guess I can't complain too much, seeing how Sean got a ring in 99 and the Spurs were forced to go with the youth movement that got us Tony and Manu. Still, Spree would have really leveled the playing field against LA in the early 2000s.

Yeah, Spree's game was as explosive as his personality! :lol
