The Spurs began their 2009-10 campaign on Tuesday with a preseason opener vs. Houston. A number of phone calls came into the Express-News Sports department between 7-7:30 p.m. all asking the same question.

Is the game on TV?

For the record, none of the Spurs preseason games are scheduled for live TV.

But when the regular season arrives in about two weeks, the Spurs will make 101 TV appearances over seven broadcast partners, all in high-definition.

The Spurs only play 82 games but there are some cases where two channels will show the same game. For example, the Oct. 28 season opener, at home vs. New Orleans, will be on both ESPN and KENS-TV 5.

The largest chunk of games goes to Fox Sports Net Southwest with 50 Spurs games, followed by KENS-TV 5 with 12 games, KMYS-TV 35 with 11 games and ESPN with 10 games.

NBA TV has eight Spurs games on their schedule, TNT picks up seven games and ABC has three Spurs games penciled in for broadcast.

KENS, KMYS and Fox Sport Net Southwest will offer half-hour pregame and postgame wrap-up shows for most of the Spurs games.

When it comes to scheduling, the big winner is Fox Sports Net Southwest. The regional sports network had 31 Spurs games last season. That means some games had to be taken away from someone.

That someone is KMYS. They had 30 games last year. This year, the MyNetwork TV affiliate only has 11 games.

The channel-by-channel breakdown looks like this:

•KENS: 7 home games, 5 road games (12 total)

•KMYS: 6 home games, 5 road games (11 total)

•Fox Sports Net Southwest: 24 home games, 26 road games (50 total)

•ABC: 2 home games, 1 road games (3 total)

•TNT: 2 home games, 5 road games (7 total)

•ESPN: 4 home games, 6 road games (10 total)

•NBATV: 6 home games, 2 road games (8 total)

The news about the TV schedule (http://www.nba.com/spurs/news/broadcast_schedule_091002.html) is on the Spurs website. But as of Oct. 9, the actual TV game schedule (http://www.nba.com/spurs/schedule/) had yet to be posted.

It looks like this is the first back-to-back of what looks like the RRT. Even if it isn't the RRT, it's still 8 straight games on the road spread across about 3 weeks. It translates to a game every 54 hours on average for 3 weeks. How the coaching staff manages minutes and the evergy displayed on this back-to-back will probably set the tone for an extremely positive road trip, or a non-SPAM year beginning.

It looks like this one is after the RRT and the Spurs will probably be right in the race for a playoff seed with the Lakers (possibly HCA...).

The division race can come down to the wire, and this season looks no different. With Dallas improving their roster move-for-move with the Spurs this offseason, it won't surprise me if neither team benches starters or limits minutes during this final game, especially if seedings are on the line.
