Help me settle an arguement. Who are your top players with the best post up game in the league. Not best PF or C, not rebounder or shotblocker, just post up moves.

Go.

Kobe, easily. MJ's fade, the Dreamshake, Skyhook and has all the fundamental post movements pretty much mastered.

Jefferson, probably rather easily.

Yao is pretty limited and most resorts to fallaways over his right shoulder.

I'm ranking a top ten but Kobe is easily on top of that list.

Name another current player that has the amount of post-moves in his repertoire as Kobe Bryant. You can't because they don't exist.

Duncan. Big al. And pau. Yao is pretty deadly also

I think Amare's post game is horrendous. Pau is in the top 5. I'd add KG and Bosh before Amare.

And I can respect that opinion, even though it's different than mine's. Don't remember anybody really stopping Amare in the paint. It's his defense that sucks, but to me, he has awesome offense.

I'll say my top three are Duncan, Jefferson, and Yao, in that order.

I would have said Duncan a couple of years ago but he's gotten lazy in recent seasons. His footwork and headfakes are sometimes nowhere to be seen and a lot of times now he'll just back someone down make one move, get stuck and then throw up a shot off-balanced. And he's getting blocked a lot more these days as well.

Yeah but his piss poor post game isn't what makes his offense awesome. Nash, his ability to finish and dunk on a dime is what makes him scary.

Greg Oden and Dwight Howard would be a battle of the post-up legends.

If Howard doesn't show any improvement in his low post game this season he needs to be smacked.

He has great face-up offense. Back to the basket offense is not his strong suit

wtf. Scola has better post up moves than Yao, Pau, Bynum and the ultimate Laker fans wet dream that they put at the top of every list Bryant. Scola has a damn clever post up game.

Unforgivable

Out of those I will say that only Duncan and Pau (I really haven't seen Jefferson play much) have better post up games than Scola.

Bynum: no way, Shaq: is more strength (and shoulder charges) than post up moves and what Yao and Kobe do when they get the ball on the post 99,9% of the times is hit fade away jumpers, granted they are really good at that but they lack a little bit of variation.

Scola is barely 6'9'', doesn't jump, and isn't by any means one of the strongest players on the league but he constantly makes his way to the basket with a great display of post up moves.

Here's some footage of what I'm talking about, specially that move on Odom at the 0:24 min mark.

Lol @ Amare

I don't think Yao is that good in the post either. Not bad, but he doesn't like contact, he doesn't really have quickness to put on a move, he's just tall, and he'd rather shoot midrange jumpers.

Of those who haven't been mentioned yet, Carmelo has a very good back-to-the-basket post game. And among guards, Vince Carter and Chauncey Billups also have strong post games.

I would say Al Jefferson in terms of bigs, quite easily.

Kobe is the best non big man.

Vince Carter and T-Mac both have/had comparable post games to Kobe.

Not many, at least not many that do it more than occasionally and are actually adept at doing it.

Vince Carter, Joe Johnson but more in the midpost, Stephen Jackson if you call him a 2-guard.

Does anyone in the Cavs even have post moves?

Retired now, but Cuttino Mobley was money in the post for most of the latter part of his career.

Amare is extremely talented offensively, but his post moves have always been lacking.

I think Amare is more of a face-up kind of player, he is great at attacking the basket off the dribble. The few times he posts-up, he always goes for a fade-away jumpers

10-12-2009, 01:26 PM
when he wants to, Eddy Curry probably has the best post up offensive game in the NBA

When you're too much of a bitch made sissy to play in the post, your variety of effective post move (which I agree he has), don't matter.

And it sucks, cause I've seen (and I know you've seen this DSF :lol) a motivated Diaw repeatedly abuse Duncan in the post. If they got that consistently, the 2007 championship woulda been a lock.

Btw - other than Nash, it looks like we agree on a lot of shit. Any Suns fan who recognizes Amare has no post game gets a +1 in my book.

Scola might be in the top 2 or 3 in terms of pure post moves. He has a variety of spins and fakes. The only reason he probably doesnt rate with guys like Jefferson, Pau and Duncan in terms of his post game is because he isnt able to score as much, mainly due to him being undersized and lacking athleticism. But in terms of pure skill in the post, he might be better than all 3 of them.

Hes skilled as hell.
