LaMarcus Aldridge Contract Extension Update

Kevin Pritchard has officially referred to Aldridge's contract extension as "complicated" but talks have begun to make some progress. Jason Quick weighed in last night on the situation...

Pritchard said the daily talks have been amicable and that the two sides "are in the same ballpark." The main holdup is basing negotiations on an unknown number like next year's BRI.

"But we are continuing to work at it," Pritchard said.

And HoopsWorld gives you a better understanding of the BRI that Pritchard keeps referring to in case you were wondering.

This pertains to the Blazers and Aldridge because the team doesn't know at this time what that figure is going to be and therefore cannot determine a salary for Aldridge. Brandon Roy's reported extension of $80-million already will take a large chunk of the Blazers' payroll in 2010 and the team needs to be relatively smart with how they spend their money despite the deep pockets of owner Paul Allen. The team also threw $21-million over three years at point guard Andre Miller and a possible extension could be in the future for big man Greg Oden.

Is the team still thinking max deal for Aldridge?

LaMarcus Aldridge anxious for contract extension
September 29, 2009 · Filed Under News, Portland Trail Blazers

Portland Trail Blazers power forward LaMarcus Aldridge wants a contract extension, and apparently the team isn’t quite ready to offer what he may feel he’s worth.

Joe Freeman of The Oregonian reports:

lamarcus _aldridge

LaMarcus Aldridge expressed displeasure and confusion Monday afternoon at the unresolved status of his contract negotiations with the Trail Blazers.

Speaking publicly for the first time since negotiations started in July, Aldridge said at the team’s annual media day that he was stunned the Blazers had not signed him to a long-term contract, particularly considering the prominent role he has played in helping transform the franchise into a Western Conference power.

“I didn’t think it would take this long,” Aldridge said. “I thought that after what we did last year, having 54 wins and after the big change that’s happened … here, I just felt like it wouldn’t be this hard to get it done. But it is. I can’t say that I’m happy about it.”

The battle of the Blazers articles continues...it's shaping up to be much more eventful than their actual upcoming season.

Aldridge ain't gonna be happy if he doesn't get the max or damn near close to it.

Rudy's gonna want a big Payday down the line as well.

It's a non-issue. The team and Aldridge have agreed to the basic parameters. They just get specific due to unknowns regarding the future salary cap.

Is 'non-issue' the standard response to any non-fluff piece about the Blazers?

Aldridge isn't even worth the max.

Q: why is it that you are able to post positive Blazers articles within minutes while taking days to respond to these "non-issues"?

Aldridge is about as good as Bosh and is perfect alongside Roy. Don't mess this up Portland. Well that might be too much to ask.

Western conference powers do NOT exit in the first round.

I like LA, he is a fine player, but a big man who is coming off a season where he averaged less than 1 block does not sniff max money.

Even Bosh isn't at the same level they have him at.

Or less than 8 rebounds and 2 assists. Seriously, ive never understood the big hoopla with Aldridge. Hes a damn good jump-shooting big man, and hes young - but thats all he is, nothing more.

Spurs are laying claim to Batum.

If only...

I'm convinced that TP was responsible for getting Batum on the Spurs radar in the first place. I hope TP has started already putting on the full court, free agent press on him, during their summer practices for the FNT.

As I've said before, the Blazers will face a significant challenge in the coming 2-3 year window. They will be seriously challenged in trying to keep this young bunch together and happy.

There's no doubt that the Blazers have a young, good-looking, competitive squad. Yet that could be their biggest hurdle. They have a very bright future, if Bitchard can keep the team together. That will be his biggest challenge. No matter how deep Allen's pockets are, they simply will not be able to pay everyone. At some point, human nature will take over and these young guys are ALL going to want both extended minutes and extended contracts.

I seem to recall just this past offseason, weren't there some mild rumblings from Rudy Fernandez about how his PT would be affected?

Remember, no matter how rosy and cozy the team atmosphere is now, human nature WILL eventually take over. Good luck.

The Blazers will find it difficult to keep all their players together. After watching him play a lot the last couple years, I'm not sure that Aldridge is worth a long term max contract. He doesn't shot block, rebound or play great defense, and he never takes over a game in the last few minutes. He doesn't have a "go to" move that will produce under pressure defense. Given all that I don't see how he should be paid 12 mil.

Aldridge is no better than a healthy Ilgauskas. Actually, I take that back, Ilgauskas has better defese, presense and block ratio :lol

Aldridge is as good as big Z on offense and Dirk on defense

Look on the bright side DPG, at least he comes off the books in 2019. 730 days is not a long time when you really look at it from my perspective as a non-Spur Fan :downspin:
