The biggest winner appears to be the Alamo, which trumped the Insight and Holiday for the Big 12’s No. 3 team. The San Antonio-based bowl will now feature the No. 3 Big 12 team against the No. 2 team from the Pacific 10 Conference – the Holiday Bowl’s former matchup.

That is nice for local teams; better bowls that are closer. Makes for cheap travel, lots of fans and recruiting time. Now aside from the BCS game, the B12 Bowls in order are in Phx, Dallas, SA, Phx, SD, Houston & NYC. Additionally there is another game that will most likely be played in the old Cotton Bowl that will involve the B12.

I know local bowls are crap to people who WANT to travel, but for money and fans and recruiting they are the best.

One alternate point of view on this is that recently the B12 has had 8 Bowl partners and a couple years even with 2 BCS teams someone got left out. This would mean more 6-6 teams getting left out; which many people don't have a problem with, just saying.

When does this take effect? Hypothetically speaking, this year's Alamo Bowl could see Oregon/USC vs. Nebraska/OU/Texas Tech? Crazy...I'm sure the west coast teams are thrilled with this agreement because it gives them that much more of a presence in Texas (not like USC doesn't get anyone they want anyway).

I believe it takes affect after this season. So the 2010 Alamo Bowl will be the first to feature the Big 12 / Pac 10 matchup, this year will still be the Big 12 / Big 10 matchup.

I think NFO is right; this year (2009) is the normal line-up (including Sun and Independence if I'm correct) and the new hiearchy and NYC Bowl start next season.

It also looks like the Insight is a winner because it will get the the B12 #4 vs B10 #4; essentially the old Alamo Bowl paring but with one better on B12 side (used to be 4 or 5 depending on if Gator wanted a B12 team).

from texas?

I'm saying across the board. They dominate California (obviously) and are getting more and more top recruits from Texas to, at least, consider them every year. Jackson Jeffcoat and Lache Seastrunk are perfect examples of guys that may migrate west. A potential bowl game in Texas can only help USC.

Mookie, what did you think of Greg Davis' play calling against Colorado? Look what happened the one time the Horns went down field. Sideline wide receiver screen, delayed draw, repeat. No first downs or offensive scores in the second half? Notice how the offense is not improving (possibly getting worse) and the defense has a better game each time they step on the field?

From everything I've read, Auburn still leads for Seastrunk

I've heard this as well. Do you know what it is that has him so enamored with Auburn? Is it their focus on the running game? It just seems so rare for a kid from Texas, who's being recruited by every school in the country, to choose Auburn.

Auburn is in the conversation for the other two top RBs in the nation as well, Lattimore (from SC) and Dyer (from Ark). Most agree that Dyer will commit to Auburn very soon. As for Lattimore and Seastrunk, who knows for sure.

Auburns OC, Gus Malzahn, operates a run-first spread that utilizes a lot of different personnel in a lot of different ways. It's an exciting, up-tempo offense that seems to be popular with High-School kids these days. Seastrunk, if he chose Auburn, would not only run the ball but would catch it a lot as well in the current system. You'd almost certainly see him returning kicks, and he would be used much like Percy Harvin was in Florida's very similar spread attack. There has been talk of Seastrunk teaming with Dyer in a redux of the Cadillac/Brown backfield from a few years ago.

Add on the fact that Auburn is widely considered "running back U" and it's not hard to see why he'd want to go there. Bo Jackson, Joe Cribbs, James Brooks, Brent Fullwood, Tommie Agee, Stephen Davis, Cadillac Williams, Ronnie Brown, Kenny Irons, Brandon Jacobs, Rudi Johnson, Carl Stewart, Tony Richardson, Heath Evans, etc etc. These are all reasons why Auburn is a good place for a RB to go.

Auburn will be putting yet another top-flight RB into the NFL next year in RB Ben Tate, who leads the SEC in rushing with 724 yards. Auburn also has the #6 rusher in redshirt freshman Onterio McCalebb.

from what ive heard seastrunk is a lock for LSU

anyway when i look at the top 100 players in texas every year i see, texas, lsu, oklahoma, ok state and a&m, not too many guys going to USC

and if usc goes to the alamo bowl, thats a failure and bad for recruiting, just like texas

I've heard this guy is quite caught up in his own hype. I wonder if this is why Texas has significantly decreased their recruiting effort when it comes to Seastrunk. It appears as if Auburn and LSU are his favorites but many scouts and analysts say he could end up anywhere (because he's just crazy like that). Reminds me a lot of Martellus Bennett when he spurned Texas. Auburn could use an exciting prospect like him though.

Mookie, you're right. A lot of kids from Texas don't go to USC. I'm just trying to say that a bowl game in San Antonio couldn't hurt the Trojans. How do you think being 2nd in the Pac-10 and playing in a great bowl game is a recruiting failure? USC isn't going to win the Pac-10 every year and the Alamo Bowl always gets great ratings. USC vs. Texas/Texas Tech/Ok St./Oklahoma/Nebraska would be great, IMO.

what you've heard? Where do you get your info??

This is from New Orleans.com LSU blog. Trovon Reed is a highly regarded 4* receiver who also happens to be Lache's cousin. AU does well in Texas. The Tigers also got Tyrik Rollison last year, a big time 4* QB. Look for him to start for Auburn in the next couple years.

As we mentioned last Friday, LSU hosted a "Who's who" recruiting group last week in Tigertown for the LSU-Florida game. Some came away very impressed with Tiger Stadium, the frenzied crowd and the LSU football program overall.

From what I have been able to ascertain, a few players were blown away by the environment and the way the entire weekend trip unfolded.

Two key recruits were not presen. Highly regarded CB Johnavon Fulton will reschedule.

Another player that has already committed to Tennessee, but the Tigers were hoping to sway, was O.P. Walker junior defensive tackle Anthony Johnson. He just might be in the top 2-3 players in the state of Louisiana for the 2011 recruiting class. Reportedly, his parents are in favor of him taking a closer look-see at the homestate Tigers up close.

Jonathan McKnight (CB John Curtis), Jarvis Landry (Lutcher WR - 2011 class) , James Wright (WR Belle Chasse), Chuck Hunter (West Monroe DT - 2011 class), Jemauria Rasco ( Evangel DE - 2011 class) and Joshua Shaw (CB Palmdale, Calif.) were among the players that were very impressed with the experience in Baton Rouge last weekend.

One player who headed back to Westlake, California with visions of Tigers dancing in his head is Cassius Marsh (6'4-290), rated among the top 20 DT in the country. He bench presses 330 lbs., squats 450 and has a 30" vertical.

Marsh reportedly is singing praises of LSU to everyone on the West Coast and is proclaiming LSU to be his current top choice. Family (on his mom's side) reside in and around Baton Rouge, which obviously helps Les Miles and company.

Marsh committed to California in April but decommitted in May to reopen the recruiting process. He is a two way performer as a DT and OT with great explosion and quickness. USC and Arizona State are still players in the sweepstakes for Marsh's signature. He is headed for Arizona State for a visit this coming weekend and Oklahoma on Oct. 31.

On the downside, I hear that RB Lache Seastrunk (Temple, Texas) and Thibodaux ATH Trovon Reed will wind up as Auburn Tigers when the smoke clears. That appears pretty firm as of this past weekend.

There are a few players that haven't gotten big publicity in the recruiting process quite yet, but these sophomores will be in the thick of things for the 2012 recruiting class.
