Pretty sweet little toy. Managed to fit about half my music on it. Got some nice little features.

I got bejeweled 2, Civilization, Some motorbike game, Need for Speed and Mahjong. Must have games? Most of those apps look totally worthless so I'll probably stick to games unless someone has something worth a shit.

So give me your recommendations. I need something that'll kill serious amounts of time at work.

I still use a generic MP3 player when I do feel the need to listen to music.

Well, unless web browsing is free they won't have it. I've seen them and I've told them both that they don't need all that other crap when all you are doing is listening to music. Just like a cell phone. One that can make and take calls is all they need.

The web browsing is free. It has a built in wi-fi so if they can pick up a signal they can get online.

B2B, I have an app on my iPhone called Jaman that has tons of short films, documentaries, and full length feature films: foreign, domestic, indie. Some great selections and it's free!

I can't imagine the amount of calls I would get from the kids in a day if they thought they could just pick up and dial a dad. Hell with that.

:tu Having an iPod Touch is like having an iPhone without the hefty bill. Sucks that it doesn't have the 3G-internet coverage, but I find enough WiFi hotspots around to make due. I'm still waiting for Apple to put a camera on it before I upgrade to the latest gen.

My recommendations:
Urbanspoon - great app for finding restaurants, even has a random chooser for you
MyLite - nice free flashlight app with several options
AIM - instant messaging
Facebook / Myspace - if you're into those sort of things
ESPN ScoreCenter
ESPN Radio
DoBot ToDos - nice ToDo app
textPlus - send texts to and from your iPod using WiFi
Ambiance - paid app, turns your iPod into a ambient sound machine
Pandora - internet radio
Restaurants - nutritional info for major restaurants
iWant - general stuff locator
Shopping List - Paid app, good for creating multiple shopping lists
Remote - control your iTunes on your computer using your iPod
Now Playing - movie times
Eventful - find out whats going on in your area
The Weather Channel - good weather / radar app
Tris - tetris, wo0t
Paper Toss - addictive game
Paper Football - ditto
CannonGame - ditto

I've had one for about 9 months or so and I like it a lot. Use it mostly as an mp3 player, but also great to store pictures to share with friends and family and I have some movies on there too. I also just downloaded some youtube karaoke videos, bought the three prong adapter for the TV, and I use it as a karaoke player. And I actually do use it quite a bit to surf while I'm watching TV because my laptop is old and slow.

Don't have a lot of apps, but got some of the free ones, like sudoku, word games and puzzles, bowling, a car game called Fastlane. They have a guitar hero type of app called Aeroguitar, but it's not the same imo. I haven't downloaded any really cool apps though...

^^ Word..if you even need to...you CAN make it into a phone...I use my 16gb Itouch for music mainly...great to take with you if you go into some place that you know will have free Wi-Fi...didn't get the iPhone cause I already had a phone...with a very inexpensive bill...which already has the Unlimited Data plan...so for now it all works out...

How much was it? How much is your bill a month?

Heath Ledger
10-19-2009, 11:54 AM
Jailbreaking your itouch open to so many possibilities. I can't list them all but you can customize your itouch with custom backgrounds, install all kinds of apps that are not available on the apple/itunes store. You can put installous on there so that you can "try before you buy" any app that is in the itunes store. As someone has mentioned you can turn it into a wifi phone by installing Skype,(you will need a third party mic if i recall unless new version has added one) or Fring.(no need to jailbreak to do that)

Jailbreaking it is very simple to do, what you need to do it depends on which version of firmware you are currently running. You can view that in your settings tab. Takes about 10 minutes to jailbreak it. From beginning to end.

There is no monthly bill for an itouch. Its not a phone. Just a very much enhanced version of an ipod, its like the iphone without the phone.

My recommended programs:

Pandora - Free music over wifi

Shazam - Hear a song and want to know who it's by? Shazam will tell you.

The Word - New program. Allows you to watch "The Word" segments from Steven Colbert on your iPhone or iPod Touch. Pretty awesome.

Yelp! - My favorite of the "rater" apps, this compiles all the restaurants around you into a ratings database. I prefer it to urbanspoon and the others.

Accuweather - Fantastic weather app, by far the most useful I've had.

Games:

Canabalt - Words cannot express how insanely awesome this game is. Super-super-super recommended.

Doodle-Jump - Sounds and looks dumb the first time you play it.... and then you get hooked trying to get higher just "one more time". Similar to Canabalt's style of play.

Baseball Superstars 09 - Not a realistic baseball game, but it's a blast to play! You upgrade your created player with custom gear. "My league" is a blast, you can play a season in a relatively short amount of time.

Galcon - If you like fast-paced strategy, you can seriously put some time into this game.

Civilization Revolution - Probably the best turn-based strategy game in the app store.

YOU MUST MUST MUST JAILBREAK YOUR IPOD. Seriously, it makes it SO much more fun to use.

More as I think of them. I just re-formatted my iPhone for the new jailbreak.

I don't know if you like baseball or not but the MLB.Com app during baseball season allows you to watch live games streamed onto the phone or iTouch.

My iPhone is the 32GB and i've got all my music about 5 pages of apps on it.

Best purchase I've ever made. I'm practically addicted to the damn thing.
