Why is it, when a team wins a close game, they celebrate like they won a game in the World Series?

And why is it, when a team makes the playoffs or advances, they act like they won the World Series?

Does anyone else find this a bit over the top?

Going through 162 game schedule and only having 4 teams advance is worth that kind of celebration.
