It is an ugly breed, but for some reason I find it endearing.

What are your opinions on Pugs?

I know they are supposed to make good family dogs, but could be difficult to train. Anyone here with experience to help me out before I buy one? I also have a 9 month old daughter.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of Pugs, but if they are a good breed. Go for it!

I think they're cute. But I've heard all those flat face dogs aren't very smart or very healthy.

I love dogs, but if there were one pure-breed I wouldn't want to own, pugs would be pretty high on my list. I've never met a pug that I liked. Plus, listening to them breathe is terrible. Do you really want to listen to some wheezing snuffler for the next decade?

They snuffle and snore a lot and they are a bit jealous, bit of a one-man type of canine. You need to be prepared to take particular care of their eyes too.

They don't like the heat and they soon get tired of walking, the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak! Other than that they're fine.

Pugs were trained for pit fighting, hence the name pugs. It is short for pit thugs. The dogs were bred for fighting and you cannot take that out of them.

As a breed they are prone to dry skin and they bark more than most. However they are also pretty smart, easy to train, generally mellow, and adaptable to whatever daily routine your life and schedule dictate.

Oh for sure. My dobey is the smartest, sweetest dog I've ever known. The min pins are one of the best looking dogs there is, but as far as hyper and yappy, a chihuahua is more mellow :lol

My female Pit is on her last legs, probably less than a year she's 11 which is ancient for a Pit. Our next dog will be small so we can take her when we travel which we do a lot. Thinking of a Min Pin or Chiuahah

If you have a yard, get the Min Pin---they really need it. My chihuahua travels real well, my dobey gets car sick.

Why buy a dog when you can rescue one from the Humane Society or ACS? There's a lot of dogs, even pugs, currently in shelters looking for homes.

nice bro, i mean any dog you get you'll love but a pug--hmm, not my first pic. But im biased I love big dogs, my parents have a 25lber now and i like him but you know never compares to the Great Dane guy we had who was 160 lbs. Best dog ever. Heres what i think

Little dog- pugs are cute, king charles spaniel (well anything besides a poodle)
middle dog- golden retriever-black lab-white lab-well pretty much any lab
large dog-great dane

MVP-great danes are amazing

I don't think so. Maybe subliminally. Fell in love with pugs when I was taken to an animal shelter and got to play with a room full of them. I kept making one spaz out and snort like crazy. Never had so much fun with a dog before. I think that was when I was 8 years old or something.

If I don't get a pug, I might get a beagle or a collie.

Pugs are awesome. Best small dog out there. I've had 3 all great dogs but we did have a black one(shocker) that was a little dumb. She just sat there sometimes and licked the patio glass.

I've always thought little dogs were girlie dogs.

I have a great dane. Never liked pugs. Guess I'd get a boston terrier if I got a smaller dog. Wouldn't mind a Schnauzer either.

My brother used to have a pug. "Used to" being the operative words. They are the cute when they are puppies, and that's about it. The snorting alone was enough to keep me from getting one, but they are prone to getting massively fat, and not in the cute way.

I have a rat terrier, which I love to death. Gracie has everything good about a Jack Russell, like the intelligence, energy, friendliness, minus the insanity. I've had in the past, labs, jack russells, italian greyhound, and toy chiuahua (sp). The rat terrier and the toy are my two favorite breeds.

But yeah, x-nay on the pug. Stupid snorting hyperactive little shits.

My take on pugs…

Extremely smart & overly sensitive…If you shoo them away from the dinner table they will fart at will & walk away…If they are used to going for a car ride at particular time & you don’t take them they will pout in their doggie bed & act like they got sick when you went out…They don’t like the heat or to be left outdoors...they need to be inside during the day….They also smell (for a little dog) & they need regular baths…They like regular routine, they like to play at the same time every day…They love to chase a small ball or chew toy…They are not athletic like a Jack Russell…

I love all dogs but obviously favor my pure bred basset hound that I have.

Easy going, sweetest nicest dog you've ever met. The whole breed's temperament is the same way. Don't believe the BS about the breed being dumb, they are just stubborn. Mine was quite easy to train. If I were you, I'd get a basset hound, very very cute dogs, sweet and nice, and perfect if you have or plan on having kids!

Of the dogs I have had, two Afghan hounds, a doberman, a mastiff, a pug, and a Yorkshire Terrier, I'd say the doberman has been the best big dog and the Yorkie the best small one.

That's the only breed of dog I ever saw have to be put down after a Cesar Millan intervention. They are absolutely bat shit hyper.

My rat terrier and the fiance's toy Chihuahua.

Best advice is ask everyone you personally know (not just over the internet) and see what they have to say.... I've heard very few good stories about pugs, and I really, really wanted to get one before I ended up with the terrier.

Obviously, everyone on here is partial to the breed they own. So, if you like one of those, ask them individually.

I have fairly extensive experience with yorkies (awesome dogs), labs, jack russells and rat terries, chihuahuas, beagles, and a really crappy experience with a pug. My family has a thing for animals.

Screw cats.

I prefer cats myself. I only have one thing to say on the subject. If you don't have the place or time to have a dog, don't do it. Most dogs need allot of outdoor activity. If you don't have a fenced yard, to my knowledge, there are only a few breeds sutible for indoors.

Well as far as my dog shopping has been going, my wife seems to be leaning towards a Bulldog. I don't mind those dogs at all. They don't seem to have much maintenance issues aside from the wrinkles I hear. Any thoughts on this little fella?

He is pure bred (DNA tested) English Bulldog complete with breed papers and has all his shots and is registered with the American Kennel Club.

He's adorable..the only problem, like I said in my post, is they seem to have a lot of health problems as they get older for some reason. Now, it's not always the case, but more than most dogs.

my two catahoulas. Selwyn is 6 (the brown one in the back). Bishop is 5 months (the gray and black boy)

and my gf's terrier mix, Canela. She's 5.

If you've never heard of catahoulas, check em out if you're an outdoorsy kinda person or have the time and energy to dedicate to them. The most loyal dog you'll find.

A lot of dog breeds in here. You should adopt a mutt. There's thousands of them ready to be gassed and are dirt cheap or free. Pure breeds are only useful for a breeding business or showing, imo.

My black cat was born on the streets and he's the best pal you could ask for. No worse than a $700 pure-bred Persian. There's a feral black lab here too that's very friendly. Don't forget about abandoned pets, richers!
