I guess the Celtics have no claim on their 60's championships since they technically traded franchises with the Clippers. :lol

The Zombie Sonics were allowed to take Seattle's history, so *officially* they get to claim the 1979 title. But it's dumb. They are for all intents and purposes an expansion franchise.

I would say as a fan you don't get to claim it. Laker fans shouldn't claim the Minneapolis titles. As for the Celtics, they kept their name and colors, so I think they should be able to claim the 60's titles.

I don't do the whole ring thing because I think it's too easy to pick on fans with 0 rings...you're in a perpetually winning argument until they up their count to at least 1. No challenge in that.

But I can certainly understand those who do. Players wouldn't have rings and million dollar houses without the fans so it certainly is understandable that fans absorb some of the intangible glory associated with rings.

So just for clarification.

Minneapolis Lakers 5 Rings
LA Lakers 10 Rings

Lakers 15 rings

Depending on who you root for, take your pick.

DUNCAN is just echoing the head start that select Media started after the Lakers rang for the 15th time. >They< suspect dynasty and want to separate the MN. & CA. entities to preserve the Boston mark. Phil didn't help when he whipped out that >X< cap in the locker room after the Lakers triumphed.

It's low, but, for some, the idea of the Lakers passing the Celtics is untenable.

OK now I know what you mean. I've argued with LA fans on this site about the Minneapolis thing before they won it last year, and Phil Jackson is one of my favorite people in all of professional sports. Him winning #10 doesn't bother me at all, the man if anything is underrated and deserves every one of them.

That wasnt the point. We keep hearing ther question "do you have a ring?" as if that validates someone saying "we" won a championship. There are hundreds of rings given out to Laker faithfull by the Laker organization that were not part of the FO, coaching staff, or players. The organization felt their support, either financially or morally contributed to the success of the team.

Of couse Mike K. can say "we won the gold" even though he doesnt have a medal. Just as I can say we won the gold because the team was representing us as americans. Along that same line, I can say we won the championship last year as the team was representiing me, a long time season seat holder, member of the community, and Laker fan.

I see what you mean and inevitably, fans are going to believe that they've contributed to their franchise of choice' success. I would make it a point that if you're going to honor the whole of said franchise, at least pay homage to what came before in the past. The championships stay with the Lakers because they were won by the Lakers. The Lakers journey to LA was them finding a city worthy of their success and prowess.

I could care less if they claim the one title or not. It doesn't affect me. The orginazation has one and if they feel a part of it....so be it. It's the people that have won zip or have that inferiority complex or outright hatred of the lakers that make this an issue. The championships stay with the Lakers because they were won by the Lakers.

So then the fans have nothing to do with it. Fair enough.

Don't start gettin' defensive. I hate when you get like this.

Fact is when I landed here more than a handful of posters questioned just wtf was your team, DUNCAN. I was one, but, since I was the new kid on the block I kept my trap shut and let that part of your personna in peace. But, once you've started to publicly declare your allegiance once more for the Suns I felt it appropriate to cite your declaration and fully bust yer snut.

Now, go have some f'in Bosco and cookies and calm the fk down, youngster.

Well I guess when you're an unemployed Maryvale resident you've gotta make fun of stuff like other people's favorite basketball team to make yourself feel better.

It's like the Alamo here. I'm surrounded by 35,000 Mexicans and a bunch of drive thru's with the constant "bertos" at the end...Filia, Hanka, Curta, etc.. By Sunday morning after those bastards eat their tripe the air is like Inglewood (thick & pungent). Oh, it's awful.
Do they say to you, " Hey Culoburn469, waz happening essay?:p:
