I am a local photographer (here in San Antonio), and I just entered a contest for ESPN, the magazine, called "The Shot".

The grand prize winner wins a trip to NY, to view the ESPN headquarters (I think that is in CT, actually), and more importantly for me, gets exposure through ESPN media outlets.

Basically, I am asking that you take two seconds of your time to vote for my image (if you think it is a good image).

Here is the link to where you can vote (http://theshot.espn.com/bin/Rate?image_id=1008500391) - it takes less than a minute.

Thank you for your help - I really appreciate it. As of the typing of this thread, I currently have 41 votes...and first place is close to 500 votes (so your help would be greatly appreciated!!)

Thank you, and have a great day.

thank you! in all honesty, i did not plan on making it this elaborate. however, after finishing editing the image (the first picture in the above composite...), i didn't think it was enough to win the competition, and i spiced it up a little more. the final image is a result of about 6 hours of editing.

i am extremely pleased with the result.

thank you, thank you!

thank you! :D that was my goal, to make it the best i could make it, and to make it the best out there.

hopefully the judges agree with you!

I don't like the Warrior letters in the background, the fact that there are no fans, and the smoke is a little to heavy and none of it is close or in front of the players. it looks to photo shopped. Look at the player who caught the ball check out his right arm you can still see an outline. use the eraser tool and back it off about 25% and put some smoke in front

But that's my take and that doesn't mean I won't vote.
Good Luck! :tu

thanks for the heads up. i see what you mean, and it's a shame i didn't notice this before i posted it.

i think i am getting better with each shoot, though..and hopefully in a year i won't be letting these little mistakes through. lol.

thank you for the vote, though!

It depends on how strict the judges are. I was trying to give you the edge. Since it is a ESPN site you could have had the logo in the background. (I Know cheap plug) but sometimes it works! I wish you had some fans in the background and maybe some cheerleaders biting there fingernails hoping the player makes the catch. you know add some drama. It would be nice if you had some light rain or drizzle. it also helps in hiding nay imperfections. The defensive player with his right foot on the ground with some water splashing upwards. You get the picture. :tu

You defiantly have talent, My photo shops are maybe 25% as good as yours, I am more into the comedy factor not the quality factor.

You should join photo shop contest.com and send in your work to MOCA http://moca.virtual.museum/

they have monthly contest and give away cash! They will allow you to submit your work if you want a gallery for others to see.

I tried to vote on your work but the site is sending out broken links.

here is the page telling me to check my mail.

..don't be so critical it's not too bad....Mouse is right about the smoke being a bit heavy and the Shadows seem off, but not a bad job...I have no trouble with the empty stadium..

the funny thing is that about 30 minutes before the shoot, it was raining LIKE CRAZY (this was taken last thursday)..and then as soon as i got onto the field, it stopped raining. you're right about the puddles and rain/drizzle - that would have been very sweet. i tried adding fans to the empty stadium, but it didn't look too good. i think i'm going to have to practice with that... i'm definitely using that stadium again (i paid $15 for a stock image lol)

also, if you look carefully behind the player catching the ball, you can see the ESPN logo :D i didn't want it to be overly visible, just something subtle...

and the link appears to be correct... this is the link i got when i voted: http://nielsencontests.com/T/1256362728604

thanks for the heads up.

people that do this all the time want honest opinions they don't want pat on the backs all the time. They need to know how others feel. It's how they get better.

To be honest the contest looks rigged! The fist and second place photographers both have 300 plus votes, (no one has 300 friends and if they did,how are you going to get them all to vote?) they both have ties with ESPN .

http://i125.photobucket.com/albums/p55/RackTheMouse/rigged.jpg

I actually like that there are no fans. It adds focus to the picture and the composition. I actually think it adds to the drama rather then takes away from it.

Stop being so fucking critical! :bang

Hey David what would be cool is to have one fan in the stadium and he is blind. (not to make fun of disability) but art shows all sides of life. It could be an irony type of art work. Like a painting of a man in room with stacks of porn a 50 gallon drum of hand lotion and no arms.
Just think the greatest catch ever in football and not seen by anyone.

Then again that is art and this is supposed to be photographs so I am not sure they allow you to modify them in anyway I hope he doesn't get disqualified.
