Can Duncan become the Spurs all-time leader in points this season?

If TD plays 82 games and average 18.5 he can become the all time leader this season. But as Pop already said, TD will rest in some back to back games. So I think he'll need to average near 20PPG to do it this season.

19,246 + 1,360 = 20,606

So, on my math, he will come close, but will probably break it in the 2010-11 season.

If he does break it this season, it would probably be in one of the last couple games of the season, and he'd have to average something like 20.5 ppg over 76 games.

I agree, the ABA definitely counts. So, Tim will likely pass David sometime during the 2010-11 season, and will likely never pass the Iceman.

Likely never? I'd say unless his game goes off a cliff, he's likely TO pass him. Duncan is only 4356 short, with 3 years left on his contract. If he averages only 1452 per season, he hits the Ice number on the button. If you look at those numbers for the past 6 years, his post MVP injury prone ones, he's only been under that number twice, once by 2 points.

It could be likened to that DRob scenario, but there's another one: when Rodman came aboard and lightened his load. Much of Tim's time on the floor is spent in a supporting role to Tony, just rebounding because most of the rest of the bigs suck at it. If those are the minutes shaved, his scoring shouldn't suffer much, if at all. In fact, he may be fresher in 32 minutes and more efficient.

I'd say it's probably a coin flip. He gets it if he plays those 75 games for the next 3 years and averages 19.5, not at all out of the realm of possibility.

I would think he would only sign another contract/extension if he wanted to play more, not to go after Ice's number.
