Tom Delay and Ted Nugent to Appear at NRA Convention

HOUSTON (AP) -- The National Rifle Association is holding its annual convention this weekend in Houston.

The event is expected to draw about 60,000 people including Republican House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who will be the convention's keynote speaker tomorrow.

There's a session tomorrow called "God, Guns and Rock-n-Roll," featuring rock star Ted Nugent.

The NRA's executive vice president says the location for the convention is a good one because, "It's the heartland of the country." He says, "They love us."

What a Pair. One avoided military service during Vietnam by stating that all the slots were taken by minorities, the other did it by pissing and shitting all over himself (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ted_Nugent).

"Nugent avoided the draft during the Vietnam War. In an interview for the Detroit Free Press July 15, 1990, Nugent described how he avoided the draft: He claims that 30 days before his Draft Board Physical, he stopped all forms of personal hygiene. The last ten days he ingested nothing but junk food and Pepsi, and a week before his physical he stopped using the bathroom altogether, virtually living inside pants caked with excrement and stained by his urine. That spectacle won Nugent a deferment, he says. His quote: “ but if I would have gone over there, I’d have been killed, or I’d have killed, , or I’d have killed all the Hippies in the foxholes… I would have killed everybody.”

"If you don't speak English then get the ----out of America" said Nugent in San Antonio just before the 2000 elections.

Tom Delay today compared his plight to that of Pres. Clinton...

I have been watched and investigated probably more than Bill Clinton. They can't find anything on me, so they are going back to my childhood, going back to my family, going to things that happened eight years ago. There's nothing there." ..

Arrogance has never been one of Tom Delay's short-comings, but its strange that Delay would seem to be confirming what Demo's have been saying all along - Monicagate was a complete witch-hunt.

There's compare and then, there's contrast...you could use some discernment.

I don't see anywhere in his statement that the investigations of Bill Clinton were "witch hunts." Nice try though...

What kinda sport? An American Taliban-type Infada?

Here's a new chapter in the GOP's increasingly frightening use of violent language to intimidate its political opponents...

Some background first: A few weeks back, I traced a brief history of how the GOP is infusing its rhetoric with thinly-veiled threats of violence. The post was in response to House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-TX) threatening judges with retribution for their ruling in the Terry Schiavo affair. Delay said, "The time will come for the men responsible for this to answer for their behavior."

In case you thought that wasn't a threat, Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) subsequently took to the Senate floor to justify physical attacks on judges (this came just a few weeks after a federal judge's family was murdered).

Which brings us to this weekend, and back to DeLay. Facing more and more corruption/ethics questions, DeLay told the National Rifle Association this weekend that he wasn't worried. "I feel really good," he told the group, because "when a man is in trouble or in a good fight, you want to have your friends around, preferably armed."

two are parading guns in front of crowds

once is actually using the gun for sport
No, two are actually firing their guns in the presence of innocent people who could be harmed and one is displaying an (presumably) unloaded gift.

Meanwhile, back to surreality, Nugent is advocating armed vigilantism at the NRA meeting..

HOUSTON - With an assault weapon in each hand, rocker and gun rights advocate Ted Nugent urged National Rifle Association members to be "hardcore, radical extremists demanding the right to self defense."

Speaking at the NRA's annual convention Saturday, Nugent said each NRA member should try to enroll 10 new members over the next year and associate only with other members.

"Let's next year sit here and say, 'Holy smokes, the NRA has 40 million members now,'" he said. "No one is allowed at our barbecues unless they are an NRA member. Do that in your life."

Nugent sang and played a guitar painted with red and white stripes for the crowd at Houston's downtown convention center.

Anyone remember what Nugent said in 2000 in a concert in SA?

"Remember the Alamo! Shoot 'em!" he screamed to applause. "To show you how radical I am, I want carjackers dead. I want rapists dead. I want burglars dead. I want child molesters dead. I want the bad guys dead. No court case. No parole. No early release. I want 'em dead. Get a gun and when they attack you, shoot 'em."

I agree.
