Pat Riley was right. The man knew what it took to win 'ships.

This is what exciets me the MOST about the new season. As stated 'several' times on this board, Blair is a rebounding machine. But consider that Mcdyess will be taking a lot of Bonner's minutes (and Dice was one of the best rebounders per 48 min last year) and that RJ will be taking a lot of Finleys, that there is 2 huge upgrades over last years squad. And don't sleep on George Hill either. Hill was a great reabounding PG last year and with more minutes should improve the rebounding at the guard position.

The Spurs now have 3 great rebounding bigs, compared to ONE last year.

It wasn't just that Tim was the only decent rebounding big, he was the only decent rebounder of ANY starter at their position. Finley, Bowen, Mason and Parker are not IMO good rebounders for their position. Not to mention Bonner.

Forget that the spurs were technically a good def rebounding team last year. I distinctly remember some games where the next best rebounder on the team after Tim was Hill. The PG. Enough said.

Go get them boards. Go get them rings.

True, unless he only plays ten minutes per game.

Ginobili too. I've seen many games where he has like 6-10 rebounds. He rebounds well for his position.

lrrr, don't get me wrong, i am fully on board with Blair/rebounds and figure only Cementovich can ruin him. However, i ran some stats on Rebounds = Rings and it's not as telling a stat as this:

The last NBA champion to yield a higher shooting percentage to its opponent than its own shooting percentage were the 1978 Washington Bullets. (This was thru about 2004, i have not yet run the 2005-2009 fg% allowed stats).

Back to the rebounds = rings, it was 14-7 (66%) in favor of the rebound winners, however many a year of those 14 winners they just barely outboarded the other team. Ie the 2000 Marketing Fakers with Fat Arse Shaq being allowed to camp in the lane for 6 seconds, still only a 248-247 advantage over the 76ers. One board!
1997 &
1998 Utah actually outboarded the Bulls. Of course that was when Rodman was allowed to flop and get the call at will.

The Spurs years:
1999 Spurs 193-191 over Knicks
2003 Spurs 45.8 - 42.3 Nets
2005 Spurs 41.7 - 39.3 over Detroit.

Do we even need 7 games. I thought 3 would be enough. The Lakers quit on the 4th game. No one except Kobe Bryant shows up.

That's not impossible, keeping in mind that he just blocked a Shaq.

That would really make Kobe cry again:lol

And, I would gladly eat my words about Bonner not being able to shoot well in the playoffs when it counts.:toast

When pretty much the only player that averages double digit rebounds on your team is the same guy that needs to take you through the playoffs, you're fucked.
That's why I'm glad we got Dice, Ratliff and Blair, and I hope all of them help in this department, so TD can be fresh when it matters the most.

:toast

If Pop plays Duncan & Blair together, we'll dominate the boards. And a Duncan/McDyess combo will be almost as good on the glass. Ratliff is a decent rebounder too.

The long and short of it, no fucking BONNER!
