Batum To Undergo Shoulder Surgery

Portland Trail Blazers forward Nicolas Batum will undergo surgery on his right shoulder to repair a torn labrum, it was announced today by General Manager Kevin Pritchard. The surgery will be performed by Dr. Neal ElAttrache on Friday in Los Angeles at the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic. A timeline for Batum’s return will be determined following surgery. As a rookie last season, Batum appeared in 79 games (76 starts), averaging 5.4 points (44.6% FT), 2.8 rebounds, 0.9 assists and 18.4 minutes.

Ah, that sucks. He had that great block in the pre-season; I thought he was gonna start out strong.

Yeah, because labrum tears are an everyday thing.

All the cool kids are tearing their labrums these days.

According to T-Long, the Blazers will have alot of non-issues this year

Losing your starting SF for all or most of the season is a non-issue because the guy that missed all of last season is currently available to replace him. That makes sense to me.

Non-issues abound in Portland. Do they add to up an actual "issue" at some point, or do they all add up to one massive, inescapably gigantic "non-issue"?

I feel bad for Batum. He was finally playing with confidence and now he may miss the entire season. :(

So is Webster or Outlaw going to start? How is Rudy doing?

But Batum said the pain had gradually become too much to play through over the last two weeks. He routinely aggravated the injury during games and practices, when he would run into screens or have his arm tugged by a defender. He dinged the shoulder in the first quarter of the Blazers’ last exhibition game against the Suns on Thursday and the pain had become too much.

The breaking point came during Sunday’s practice, when he ran into a Greg Oden screen.

How long does this sort of injury usually take to heal? Is he really out the whole season? If so, that sucks. He seems to be a talented kid.

Torn Labrum's like what Jameer Nelson had, at least a half season off and Nelson wasn't quite the same when he came back.

If he has the surgery now, I figure he'll be back a few weeks after All-Star. But he won't be back to playing at 100% probably until the Playoffs.

He'll probably be back around late February to March. This is actually a blessing as it allocates more playing time to other players. Nic's going to be a fine player in the league, but he wasn't going to play more than 20 minutes per game anyway. We're going to be even better now. :smokin

So you are saying your coach was dumb and hurting the team by playing Batum over others?
