It's not because Clippers is cursed, I think Blake Griffin was trying to play too hard in preseason( I was impressed by the amazing tomahawk), Clippers have to take responsibility for his injury. By contrast, DeJuan Blair averaged only 15+ mins.

No hard impact at all when he landed.

Must have cracked on the way up.

Lucky it isn't dislocated ala McDyess

This certainly opens up the ROY race, but Blair still isn't in it. Not enough minutes.

If it's not Griffin, it's going to be some score-first guard on a garbage team.

If it was that monster dunk they showed on ESPN, he did land funny and immediately went down and checked his knee. Upon seeing it, I wondered why nobody else seemed to comment on it.

Watch closely when he lands in that video. You can see his knee (left one?) pause a bit. It just kind of jerks there for a quick second, then he turns around. That may be just the way he landed, but that could be the point of injury too.

Feel bad for Blake, but as for the Clippers, that's pretty much what they get.

DeJuan Blair was supposed to be the one with bad knees
By Buck Harvey on Oct 27, 09 10:52 AM | Permalink | Comments (0) Save & Share Yahoo! BuzzYahoo! Newsvine del.icio.us Facebook Google Reddit Fark
But people forget. Blake Griffin suffered injuries to both knees in his freshman season with Oklahoma.

Five minutes into a game at Kansas in January of 2008, Griffin sprained a knee ligament and doctors thought he could be out four weeks. He missed only one game. Then he partially tore a ligament in his other knee later in the season against Texas A&M. Again, he missed only one game.

Blake called these injuries "blessings" at the time. OU won both games without him and developed some depth.

Maybe the Clippers can draw on this. The kid has been hurt before, but he's also come back quickly before.

Still, scouts noticed. When the Los Angeles Times put together a mock draft in the spring of 2008, when there was still a chance Griffin could leave the Sooners after only one season, the opinion was this: "Young bull but knees are a question."

Griffin worked out with a San Francisco trainer in the summer of 2008 to increase knee strength. He then proved to be durable his sophomore season, and no NBA general manager would have passed on Griffin last June because of heath concerns.

But for anyone looking, the latest news wasn't just about bad luck. There were signs.

For a tome on the curse of the Clippers, click here.

If Clippers are out of the playoffs race at the trade deadline, they will likely trade Camby. Griffin being out for an extended period won't surely help them to reach the playoffs.

Spurs tried to get Camby at the deadline. I don't know it they are still interested and if they will be the team with the most attractive package but this injury puts Camby a little more on the trading block.

We'd be unstoppable with Camby but managing minutes would be tough for Pop and The Beast plays less.

Pop could play the rookie card on that one and say Blair 'needs to refine his game' or 'learn the playbook/team defense concept' while giving his minutes to Camby...

Really sucks for Blake but that article by Simmins was just hilarious. And a little sad, too. I always felt that Baylor was a out of his element as a GM. One of those examples where being a great player (McHale being another one IMHO) doesn't mean you understand the business side of BB or for that matter how to evaluate talent.

Good Luck recovering and hope to see you playing this year since I was really looking forward to watching him play. His game looks NBA ready and this is a shame.

The Curse continures!
