View Full Version : So should we expect to see a half empty arena tonight?

Just out of curiosity, I just did some searching for tickets on Ticketmaster for tonight's game, and there appear to be tickets available basically all over the arena. Everything I searched on, from floor seats to the rafters, there were tickets available.
With all the excitement this offseason, you would think folks would get fired up at least for opening night.
If I weren't 4 states away, I know my ass would be in the AT&T Center tonight!

Procrastinating is our thing baby!!! It's more exciting getting to the arena and not know where your seats will be, or if youll even get any tix....
Dont worry, by the end of the game they will report the usual sellout crowd.

If you're from Atlanta and you've been there awhile, then you've seen this with the Braves. In 1993, they were selling out midweek day games. By 1999, you could walk up and buy tickets to playoff games on gameday.
Spoiled by success and saving their money for a deep playoff run.

Sorry to hear that, as I would love to see that game. Hell, I am trying to figure out a way to get from Seattle to Portland for those two Spurs games. Shame to give the money to the Blazers instead of the Spurs.

Well this makes sense, if you buy tickets you get to see one game. If your electricity gets cut off, you get to see no other games. Pay bills, watch all the games.

I understand, NBA games are getting ridiculous pricewise, especially when you can just watch it at home for free. It seems that, at least from what I can see on TV, usually the place is always full, so it was surprising to see that so many seats were still available for opening night with all of the buzz this summer. Of course the economy isn't exactly lighting it up either these days.
As for the Braves here in Atlanta, they actually had a pretty decent team this year but still managed to be below 20,000 on many nights. So I definitely know about apathetic fans. But no matter what, opening day for the Braves always manages to be a sell out.
Like others said, there will probably be a lot of walk ups tonight. Wish I were one of them!

It is disappointing to see that even after the Spurs organization went out and spent a lot of money to give us an excellent opportunity to compete for a championship that we cannot sellout a home opener.

I was shocked myself, with all the buzz you'd expect a sellout. I can understand some pricey seats being open, but hell you can still get the 10 buck tickets up top as well. Come on SA, Holt opened his pocketboook open yours!!

This would seem to certainly rile up the fanbase...until the rally against it shows up with only a handful of people.

Dang man I would give anything to go to this game ya'll! So far I've been stationed pretty much everywhere except for San Antonio, so I haven't been to a game in years. I hope the one's in SA appreciate what an opportunity they have! Shit just watching the game is a blessing, we didn't get to watch many games in Iraq. But I did see the Christmas Day game when Roger hit the three! It was midnight there when I watched it and I still had to work the next day. Well really I had to work everyday so that was nothing new. Anyways, I hope the tickets start selling fast because NO is a good freaking team so this should be an exciting game. I just figured the game would be sold out by now...

Good ticket deals on this game- for $22 I got tickets in section 207 row 12 and a free hotdog thrown in. I'm surprised as well this game isn't sold out. New Orleans is a worthy opponent for an opener. Not to mention, watching the new guys and Manu's return!

Thanks a lot! Did you get to watch any games on AFN when you were in Iraq? When I was in the Desert back in 03' I watched the spurs win the championship at like 6 in the morning. I stayed up every night to watch all the playoff games, totally worth it. Then in the beginning of this year when I went to Iraq they only showed like 2 games on AFN.

Yeah I did when I was at Anaconda (big base N of Baghdad). I was only there for about a month and a half though before we moved out to a FOB in east-central Diyala where I didn't get to see anything. Had internet but no T.V. so the best I could do was watch clips/highlights. I was there in late 03'-04.
Anaconda was sweet because they had a huge rec tent set up with a few big-screen TVs. Lot's of AF/USA people in there talkin smack and watching games together. Usually there would be football on one and basketball/other sports on the other, or whatever was good on AFN at the time.
I was in Korea when the Spurs won the title in 03'. My chief was cool and let me go back to the barracks to watch the games since it was the middle of the day (night before in the states).
You keep some crazy hours when your overseas and a huge sports fan!:toast

Good luck man! Military life is a trip. You're going to see a lot of awesome places around the world, especially in the Navy. If you ever get to Korea, make sure you have a 'soju experience'. I partied a few times with some Navy guys in Pusan So. Korea when we were picking up some vehicles. Never seen people drink as much as Navy guys do in my entire life.

Late arriving crowd as is typical for a 7pm start. Attendance announced as a sellout with the new number, 18,581. It felt and looked like a sellout or real close. The new Fan Zone on the balcony level is real nice and was packed all night. So was Headlines downstairs.
More 'buzz' from beginning to end than any regular season game in recent memory.

In 07-08, if memory serves, the Spurs moved their default start time from 7:30 to 7:00 to make it more family friendly. After a year of half empty first quarters, they went back to 7:30.
But these 7:00 weeknight games have always had late-arriving crowds.

I had fun watching the 2003 Playoffs/Finals when I was deployed to Landstuhl Germany- got up early to watch the games before heading to work. I still associate the play offs with eating cereal and drinking coffee. AFN showed all the games if you were willing to watch them in the middle of the night!
