The Spurs will be damn lucky if they aren't fined by the NBA for the bat-release stunt.

That's garbage and was delaying the game and putting the players in danger by their reacting and possibly messing up their knees and ankles as they slipped and cowered from a flying rodent.

PLUS any potential flack from PETA over what happened to it. What if Manu broke his hand smashing the bat?

Bush league.

please, you don't have to be Columbo to figure it out.

It's Halloween and the Coyote has a Batman costume ready to go, though it might not have been supposed to go off until half-time.

This has 'promotions idiots' written all over it.

The Spurs will probably play cover-up and pretend to the media that it was all a coincidence.

That wasn't on purpose. A bat invades the AT&T Center about once or twice a season. No way that was preplanned.

And the Coyote had a major delay before coming out with the costume.

It's hard to believe anyone would think it's a good idea to release a live bat into a stadium of 20,000 people. Even if it had been planned there's probably no way to prove it.

How anyone thinks this was orchastrated by the Spurs orginization is beyond me.... There's no way that was pre-planned. It was most likely a fan getting a bat in or a freak accident.

Even if it was a stunt, you're overreacting like crazy. The bat had been noticed way before the coyote had come out in costume, so it's not inconceivable that he changed into it when the opportunity presented itself. But that's besides the point.

Although this is a serious sport to us and the players involved, it's solely entertainment. So yes, that means pyrotechnics (omg, what if a player's hair caught on fire?!), smoke, lasers, light shows, and flying mammals. It's not a big deal or something to be angry about. It's a show.

If there was an Easter Sunday game, and a jackrabbit ran out onto the court, and the Coyote a few minutes later popped out in a Bugs Bunny outfit . . .

What would your reaction be?

By J.E. Skeets

Tonight's Halloween game between the Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs was delayed when a bat began flying around the court — that is, until Spurs guard Manu Ginobili whacked the bat out of midair (http://i33.tinypic.com/sbowmp.gif) with his hand like a freakin' cat! ("Manu who catch bat with hand accomplish anything." — Mr. Miyagi (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087538/quotes))

With the bat dazed and confused, Manu calmly picked up the flying mammal, walked it over to an usher and delivered his kill. After a quick squirt of hand sanitizer the game was back on. No bat, no problem.

The NBA: If it's not one thing, it's a flying hawk (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/blog/ball_dont_lie/post/Video-Atlanta-Hawks-hawk-delays-playoff-game?urn=nba,158520), you know?

And oh, just in case PETA is reading, my sources tell me the bat was released outside the arena.

UPDATE: The bat is dead. Long live the bat!

That bat was in the arena Friday night for the Rampage game.

I bet the Front Office had a meeting that they should get he bat in early to climatize it before the Spurs game. Someone check the AT&T Center meeting room manafest for proof there was a meeting. I have a friend who's neighbor works part time as a custodian. I'll see if he can go through the trash.

There has to be some grainy footage out there of Manu and the bat practicing that "stunt" all Saturday afternoon.

Better yet, if you go to Manu's house, it turns out to be Manu's pet and they do that trick all the time. Anyone have a copy of the old Time Warner commercials? Check for a bat hanging upside down in the background!

Or maybe HEB is about to replace H.E.Buddy with H.E.Bat and this was just a PR stunt for them. Soon we'll see a commercial featuring the bat and Manu in yucking it up over a frozen HEB pizza. It will end with Tim Duncan akwardly delivering the line "Manu, you gave the last slice to the bat again?"

Had to be a stunt. Brought to you by the clever folks who came up with "Spursday".
