http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/sports_blog/2009/11/lakers-pau-gasol-may-have-small-tear-in-his-hamstring.html

Lakers forward Pau Gasol underwent a sonogram that showed a possible tear in his right hamstring, and he is not expected to play on the team's upcoming two-game road trip, the team said.

Gasol also had a more complex MRI exam today on his hamstring, and those results will be known by Tuesday.

Gasol is traveling with the Lakers for their games in Oklahoma City on Tuesday and in Houston on Wednesday but will not play. "We don’t expect him to play on this trip," Lakers spokesman John Black said.

Gasol, a two-time All-Star, has missed all three of the Lakers' regular season games and their last six exhibition games.

What's the recovery on something like that? Jose Reyes had a tear, but it may not be to the same degree.

NON-ISSUE.... If Bynum gets his shit together. Hopefully Gasol will be back before we play Memphis Feb 1st (annual Bynum injury game).

11-02-2009, 07:08 PM
It really is a non-issue. Gasol will be back when the Lakers really need him. In the meantime, it might be good for Bynum to get a lot more time.

Don't get me wrong, I think the Lakers are much stronger with Gasol, but since the playoffs are months away, Pau's absence is no big deal right now.

He actually had that test awhile ago that showed there might be a slight tear. He had an MRI today to see is any progress was made.

You're such a fucking moron. The difference between a minor tear and a strain is nothing. It's all about severity. We'll just have to wait for the MRI results. Lakers have an immensely soft schedule the first month and a half so even if he's out for a while they should be able to get by.

4-8 weeks out? This is what I've been telling all along. Although I never want Pau to get injured, his non-stop playing for 2 years is probably catching up on him. Yeah I know he's 29, but those tired legs are more prone to injuries.

Hey stupid, the Lakers were the 1st seed in the Western conference at one point before the Gasol trade. And that was without Ron Artest.

If Bynum remains healthy and continues to play like he has been, the Lakers can handle any Western conference team.

It is true that the Lakers were in first prior to the Gasol trade, I think it actually was right around when Bynum went down. I remember that monster Christmas game he had in 2007. The Spurs however were nowhere near the team they are now. Without Gasol, the Lakers IMO are still a top 2 team given how well Bynum has played, but the Spurs are ahead given the additions their team.

The Lakers were the #1 with an easy schedule, only 34 games played, Bynum in one of his hot streaks and they were one pace for 56 wins. They'd probably have finished that season with 50 wins (sans Gasol and sans Bynum's injury), let's not pretend they were the best team in the West or something.

But you trying to use that silly fallacy as a serious argument makes you an idiot.

It's moot, though. 09/10 Lakers team is nothing like 07/08. If you're seriously trying to compare the two then you actually are stupid. If you were trolling, then that's cool.

I wasn't even comparing both teams, because everyone knows which team is better. However, you trying to make an argument that Gasol was never needed by the Lakers to be this successful is an insult to the magic tricks of Kupchack. This is pretty serious for the Lakers. Now they have to worry about both their bigs. They can't really afford to rush Pau back.

Do they have to play Bynum in slightly limited minutes to ensure he stays healthy?

This is pretty serious for the Lakers.

Nah. It's a LOOOONG season. The playoffs are when the real season begins. No one understands that more than Phil Jackson. We will rest Pau as much as needed until he gets healthy. There is no rush. Pau needs a rest anyways since he didn't get a break this summer while he was playing in that European championship tournament.

Agreed.

It might affect their overall seeding, but they'll still be near the top. They won't rip through the league like they would've with Gasol, but they still have the talent to hang with the rest of the best.

the MRI will say more and this is a delicate situation for the lakers medical staff. you always want to avoid putting anyone under the knife and so they will defer to rest and rehab on this one. but, if it eventually tears after he comes back then the season may be lost. pretty much just a wait and see and hope for the best case scenario.

this is correct. But now Kobe will have to average 35+mpg for the next 6 weeks or more.

Spurs should be #1 seed by then but yeah, Lakers will be close
