View Full Version : jobs you got fired from and why

i remember the first job i got fired from. i was like 17

it was at office depot. they have those walkie talkie things, and one day, i found out that office depot had their very own private radio line. so i took my radio with me during lunch and went by another office depot, and i was able to hear and talk to them, without them knowing what was going on. so i was telling them stuff like "2 analfuckers in zone 3 (because they had a zone system instead of aisle system). clean that shit up." and just strange things like that. cussing on the radios pretty much would instantly get you written up, or even fired. one time someone said "what the hell" and we had to stay 30 minutes past closing to watch some retarded video on radio policy. apparently district managers could just randomly tap into the store lines to listen to how they are talking, so this was something that really pissed store managers off.

oh yeah, and i did it on black friday, so that made them even more pissed off.

needless to say, that particular location put out a big alert to all surrounding locations that someone was doing this, and apparently they matched up the fact that my radio wasnt shown as being turned in for the timespan in which the store said the stuff happened, so a few days later when they figured this all out, i ended up getting fired.

a few days later i got a knife and carved a big "fuck you" on one of the tables they had there

good times

anyone got any good "fired" stories?

I refused to take the trash out and clean the shop kitchen. Not my responsibility and not my job. I was fired for not being a team player and going above and beyond my job description.

i never understood how people could get fired from seasonal employment. you pretty much have to try to get fired for that to happen.

Fired from Dairy Queen because the managers liked to change the schedule on a whim and I didn't show for a shift that had been assigned to me without any notice.

I have never been fired- thank God!

I have only quit one job because the owner of the business, my boss, was emotionally unstable and made everyone's work life miserable for meager pay and no real benefits.

I'm self employed. One time I fired myself just to see what it would feel like, but I re-hired myself shortly thereafter.

I've only been fired once. Very condensed story. I was construction superintendent and almost got shot when my "new" boss intentionally didn't process some payroll just to fuck with me. I spent about 5 minutes staring down the barrel of a .357 trying to convince the subcontractor not to shoot me. Meanwhile, my new boss was peeking out the window watching the whole thing. When it was finally over I went back inside and picked my boss up by the throat with one hand and slammed him against the wall and held him with his feet dangling. I very slowly and clearly told him I would kill him if he ever did anything like that to me again. I got fired a week later.

When I was in college I was fired from a Country Club (waitstaff) for the same reason, kinda ... I was supposed to be off until a schedule change that I was never informed of happened. I was drinking pretty heavily that day and my boss actually called me to come in ... I told him I was never informed of the schedule change and had been drinking and apparently he didn't give a shit. So I went in. :lol

So, after a craptacularly bad night of service ... he met me at the timeclock with the the pink slip. Oops. :lol

anywho i got fired once when i was 17. It was from sea world. They gave free tickets to employees and most people who worked there didn't want them. So I took them off their hands.

I sold all of them on ebay. Turns out some one who worked there spotted me and emailed me with a question and i replied. My email that just happen to have my name on it. :lol stupid. Anyway i got fired but made more money selling the tickets than working there. After that they change the tickets so they could not possibly be resold. fine print...barcode..signature..etc.

Stories like CCs are pretty common in the construction industry back in the 70s/80s.

My pops used to carry back then when builders used to waiver and give him the run around about paying. Some of these trades are owed up to $100-150K and finally snap.

Exactly. The guy was owed a $32,000 check and I submitted the payroll. The asshole boss stuck it in his desk and didn't submit it. I didn't like the guy pulling a gun on me but I didn't blame him. He had tractor payments due and we owed him the money. When the sheriff showed up I refused to press charges.

I heard my boss later got transferred to Louisiana and tried to pull the same shit over there. The subcontractor put him in the hospital for three months.

I was fired from Radioshack in 2001. I was riding the bus to work one morning and missed my transfer. I ended up opening the store 30 minutes late. About a week later, my district manager summoned me to the district office. He had pulled security records and highlighted every single time I'd disarmed the alarm after 10 am (opening time) and armed it before 8 pm (closing time) in the previous 6 months. Ended up being about 20 or so times. The only time that was more than 2 minutes either way was the one day i opened 30 minutes late. I was fired.

I filed for unemployment and got it since I had never been disciplined for tardiness or early closes. The district manager appealed the unemployment on the grounds that I knew the rules I broke so I shouldn't get benefits. The appeal was denied solely on the grounds that despite the fact that I'd been late many many times in my 2 years of employment, I'd never been written up, warned, or disciplined in any way. Thanks to a poor economy and extensions on unemployment in Oregon at the time, I drew benefits for almost 2 years until I found another job. :tu

It wasn't easy, to be sure. But my wife was working full time while I was out of work so we made ends meet by living on the cheap. Basically, she was the primary breadwinner and I was the house-husband. Kinda shitty but we got through it.

awesome :tu
Not really. I freaking hated it. I didn't want to be out of work for that long but about 8 months into being unemployed I threw my back out helping my dad do some work on his house. I had to scrape enough money to go to a chiropractor for the next couple of months to fix it. After that, I just couldn't find anything until fall 2003 when I got a job at Albertsons. Stayed there until 2007 when I was laid off, got on at Fred Meyer 2 months later and been there since.

:lol I forgot you worked at Radio Shack. I remember my mgr always telling me, if you want to leave a few minutes early don't set the alarm because the bastards will say something. But I would imagine that it is probably more strict working at a Radio Shack in TX by the corporate headquarters being in Ft. Worth. I remember someone at the alarm company calling me like 2 months after I quit that job at like 3am because the alarm had went off. lol

I'm not sure this counts as a firing but when I worked at a bowling alley, I went to work tripping acid every day for about a month straight (not every day, just the days I worked. And some other days that I wasn't working). A few of the guys who worked there were in on it... mainly because I was middlemanning weed and vicodin deals for them (including the owner's son who also worked there). Anyway, I know for a fact one of them narced on me. I didn't necessarily get fired but I slowly stopped getting assigned shifts and at that point found a better paying job and moved on with my life.

Tell you what though, tripping in a bowling alley is like living inside a fucking video game. Shit was so cash.

My cousin threatened to fire me about a hundred times when I worked for him, most of the time for coming to work stoned, but he never followed through. Pussy.
