I know that you've never followed a team from training camp to 2nd-round exit before, but rosters are fluid and there are also things called injuries. It's impossible to predict what will happen in April and May at this point. Nobody predicting the Lakers to make a Finals before they traded for Gasol. Nobody could've seen Dirk getting hurt and them losing to an 8-seed as a result. Or Garnett getting hurt and the Celtics failing to return to the Finals. When you've followed basketball for more than 2 months, you figure these things out for yourself.

Well they have. The Mavericks advanced to the Conference Finals in 1988, where they lost to the Showtime Lakers in 7 games. They advanced to the Conference Finals again in 2003, where they lost to the eventual champion Spurs in 6 games after Dirk dislocated his knee in Game 3. They also advanced to the NBA Finals in 2006, where they lost to the Heat in 6 after winning the first two games.

The 3rd seed plays the 6th seed.
The 4th seed plays the 5th seed.
