I was doing some research recently for casinos close to hear, not thinking I'd actually find one in Texas. But turns out there is.

So...have any of ya'll been? From the pics it looks relatively ghetto. But hey, all you need is a table with a few players and money on the line. And hopefully not get shot.

So I went this past weekend...

Review: I was VERY impressed. Nice poker tables, very comfortable, and good money flowing. Buy-in is $200 so it's pricey, but you have a legit shot at making some money, there aren't a lot of sharks like Vegas.

Downside: The surrounding area is relatively ghetto, but not as bad as I saw on reviews. The Indian reservation itself is clean (empty, but clean) and the casino itself is very nice. Almost Vegas'esque. Only slots and poker though. They have some nice dining options on property, as well as a bar.

It's actually not that far away. However, it's gotten pretty bad review on the google. Not a lot of games to play either, I hear.

Ya, I read those reviews as well. I'm not looking for a lot of variety though, just poker. And from the reviews it seems Poker is one thing they do have covered.

And I figured it was about 2 hours out...but Google insists it's a little under 4 hours. I dunno. Lol, not that it'll stop me from going if it's 4...but I'd like to know how long the drive is at least.

Have you been?

No, I've not be to it. I was in Las Vegas earlier this year though. Airfare to there is cheap and so are hotels on the strip. Maybe you should consider making an extended weekend out of it and visit the real deal. :)

I've been to Vegas.

This is more of a day trip, go in the morning be back by night. Vegas is a once a year type thing for a long weekend. Have you been to Eagle Pass at all? If so how long of a drive was it?

The poker room is pretty nice. It just got renovated within the past couple of years. I like it because unlike the casinos I've been to in New Mexico you can drink and gamble at the same time.

It's called the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino in Eagle Pass. I went about 6 years ago and it was pretty ghetto, but ok for a quick trip. I did some freelance work for one of their higher ups back then and they were planning and working on a lot of upgrades, including a bigger casino, turning it into a resort and hotel. Haven't been back to check.

oh crap

Do they let your kind in there?

Ya, the only thing I don't like is they don't let you smoke at the tables. I guess I can see how it might irritate the other players at the table but c'mon.

Ya from the reviews it's supposedly much nicer after the renovations. Not Vegas, but as you said...just a "quick fix" trip.

the surrounding area is a reservation
dont really see that a downside

the poker room didnt used to have a buy in, they used to have 7 card too, then they built the new casino

it is worth going though if you like poker

Really? So Indio Hwy is part of the reservation? I didn't know this. I figured it was from that long 3 mile empty road on in that was part of the reservation.

uhh, then the highway is just a highway, it looks like any small town, then it becomes country

but youre right, the community is not gated and there is no la cantera, forum or rim

It's more then that.

Empty beaten down buildings, broken down cars in lawns, empty lots.

Not that I'm complaining. The casino was great. But going in to don't expecting much from Eagle Pass itself, lol. I kinda liked the small town feel to it though.
