the next morning you poop, when the Spurs lose a bunch of moron fans clog the forum with Bonner/Finley hating....
the only thing more frustrating than seeing the Spurs play like crap is dealing with idiots thinking all it would take is putting Bonner/Finley on the bench and VOILA, suddenly the Spurs are 82-0.
i've tried to hold back and be tactful, but the truth is, as much as it is frustrating to see the Spurs play like crap, it is SO IGNORANT to think that those two players were the only ones to severely underperform tonight. IDIOTS!- they both played 17 minutes. The ONLY player to log less time was Keith Bogans. Who played well tonight? Which unit played good defense?
PLEASE STOP this Scarlett Letter Shit(yeah kinda Red Rocket pun)
when you act like the Spurs are an unstoppable, perfect team that would be perfect if Popovich didn't fuck up by letting them play you just make yourself sound like a dumb Lakers fan that doesn't know anything about basketball except for points, all-star teams, dunks, blocks, championships, dynasty, wins, losses, gay.
Did Finley and Bonner play much less than fantastic? YES. Are they supposed to be Franchise players? NO. Did they play their best? NO. Are they the only reason we lost? NO.
Don't try to sugarcoat it and act like you "just want to have a discussion about their playing as the season goes on"
If you want to discuss the wins and the losses, and what it's going well and what's not working, and what it's gonna take to win a title then LOOK AT THE WHOLE TEAM, THE WHOLE GAME, AND THE WHOLE LEAGUE.
This is so fucking stupid spending all this time on these two guys. What about the big 3? What DIDN'T they do well enough to win tonight? What about Jefferson/McDyess? What did our new star vets NOT bring to the table tonight? What did our beloved stud rookie DeJuan Blair do well or not do well tonight?
I'm ready to be called an asshole for being rude in this post but you(know who you are) better take a good look in the mirror and get your shit in check if you think you can call yourself a fan of Spurs and a fan of basketball.

Finley and Bonner starting together is bad though.

Is that a straw man if both are starting together? Or straw men..? Bonner's defense counts as a straw man .. I think.

Given the amount of time he played, our stud Blair did fantastic tonight. They need to dump it into him when he calls for it in the post, not just during garbage time, they must do it more often.
Antonio McDyess was the biggest disappointment tonight. More than getting outplayed he just didn't show any passion out there.

Agreed, I didn't see any fire in McDyess last night.

I can live with McDyess. Detroit fans warned us to expect the Robert Horry act from him. The reason Bonner gets shit and McDyess doesn't is because McDyess has a history of coming through when the games start to matter, while Bonner has shown himself to be just completely useless once the real season starts.

Yet people overreact when he starts and plays 17 minutes in the 4th game of the season.

I don't like Pop grooming such a limited player to have an important role on this team.

You're probably right but last season we didn't have an option, Gooden was atrocious.
This season we have options, however, they'll need time to gel and get their game going, thus the need of someone with enough corporate knowledge to eat some minutes. When Dyess starts playing the way he did last season and/or when Blair improves his D, I'm sure Bonner will find his role reduced, but for the time being, I don't see how Pop can be accused of overplaying him.

Dyess is also coming off the flu. He didn't have the energy, but his two shots looked very sweet. Once the team starts using that, it will be nice.
I agree the whole team did not play well. Manu rushed a few shots and missed them. RJ was not attacking enough in the first quarter. Tony and Tim were solid. When Tony was attacking the basket it was effective. I would prefer to see him doing that with Blair and Tim ready to attack the board.
And yes, Finley is a defensive liability in the starting line up. I am hoping that Pop will juggle Hairston, Mason and Finley in the starting line up until he finds the most defensive guy that will attack the basket. My money is on Hairston, if he gets the opportunity.

Oh yeah, I don't mind Bonner starting at this time of the year. I wish Bonner would get more boards, but I still think he gives a good man to man effort in defense. He is big enough to bang with the other guys and knows the system. He is not great on defense, but does show good effort and the other team has to respect his shot. Unfortunately, when his shot is off, it hurts.
Last night, Boozer was hitting everything despite the hands in his face. We just did not have a counter to his scoring.

I think our problem is starting Bonner and Finley. We need to replace them with Mason and Dice. The more Dice plays the faster he will learn the system I know last night he sucked but I expect for dice to come out fired up against Portland. As for Mason he brings the same skills to the table as Finley just better defense why not start him. We need to set the tone from the begining of the game not wait till our bench players get in there. We don't macth up well against the elite teams in the NBA with our starting Five. I know its eary but some of you guys make it sound like its ok to lose because its eary in the season when its not.

Where did you come from, LION20?
You're a godsend. Welcome, we need more like you. :toast
Oh, and I agree exactly with everything you just said. I would add that it might be prudent to get Ginobili into the starting lineup so George Hill can truly take over and run our 2nd unit. He cannot do that whilst Manu is in there running the offense and dominating the ball.

I Live in Los Angeles area been a Spurs fan since 94.
I just want to see our best players on the floor at the beginning of the game like the rest of the NBA, everybody sends there best players to start. I know its early but I don't expect our team to be losing and say its ok its still early. At the end we might be wishing that we had won two more wins to get the #1 seed. I just want our team to come out fired up for every game. If we lose with our best players out there that's all you can ask for. The Jazz set the tone early and that carried through the hole game I don't think the Jazz played great defense our team just wasn't fired up, our best players need to set the tone early. I really hope the starting lineup changes against Portland.
