So I went browsing today for the many "Early Black Friday" sales....

and there's quite a lot of stores with discounts... especially in the electronics.

This is the perfect time to get an LCD TV, but DAMN...

There's too many to choose from... What do you recommend?

I'm looking for a 42-46 inch LCD for a decent price.

What are ya'll getting ? I'm looking forward to it more than Thanksgiving.

They were doing a lot of "one day sales".

Some stores said that if the item was cheaper on black Friday that they'd give you the difference.

I've read that no one is going to be blown away by BF sales this year. Everything is already so low, people shouldn't expect much in terms of rock bottom deals.

I'm looking for a 42-46 inch LCD for a decent price. Most of the name brands are pretty decent these days with the possible exception of LG. If you're going to get something that big, don't skimp -- get at least a 1080p, 120hz model to cut down on the motion blur.

Yeah I've been looking and Sony and Samsung so far have wowed me.

I saw a cheap Sceptre TV that wowed me as well but after reading a lot of reviews I noticed that it can be deceiving since they started to fall apart after a certain time.

I could just buy a 32" right now but I don't even know if it's big enough for me.

I still can't believe people wait hours outside in usually cold weather to buy crap they don't need.

I could just buy a 32" right now but I don't even know if it's big enough for me.That's ok for a small living room or the bedroom (though lots of people go for bigger screens in there -- not a fan). For 32s I don't care too much about the 1080p or 120hz unless you are going to be pretty close to it like using it as a computer monitor, etc -- and I'd even take a flyer on something like the Insignia (not Dynex) store brand from BestBuy if they really blow them out on Black Friday. There's a lot less need to be picky in that range.

Ive got a 32" 720p and the motion blur bugs the hell out of me. It almost makes the HD not even worth it.

I agree on at least getting the 1080p with at least 120

I bought a 50" plasma this weekend for $650 at best buy... manager was helping to ring it all up and said he'd seen the BF ad and that they wouldn't have anything to touch what I bought. I started at a decent 32" LCD for $400 and ended up pulling the trigger on the other one because it was too good of a deal to pass up.

There's also a 50" LG plasma that just went down to $650 at Costco my friend just picked up. Pretty nice.

these days you have to go to 1080 p and 120 hz cause plasma and the rest are old tech

You're right, he told me the wrong specs -- it's actually a 720p. There is absolutely no motion blur though. I'm of the impression that the negatives of the plasmas for the same resolution as lcds have been reduced to the point where one can be happy with either.

robino2001
11-25-2009, 08:30 AM
The only negative with my plasma (have 2 LCD's that I'm used to) is the reflection you see in the picture/glass from the sharp side angles but I/we never watch it from the side. Otherwise, the color and the picture is much better than my LCD once I got it calibrated. Both are 1080p, I assume the LCD is 60Hz because I bought it before the Hz numbers even mattered... while the plasma is naturally 600 Hz. Obviously looks much better on sports but Uverse's compression doesn't unleash it's full potential.

I absolutely love the LEDs but I couldn't justify the price difference when I landed the set I did for 1/4 the price of the LED.

I bought a 50" 1080p Panasonic plasma from Costco about a year ago and it kicks ass. No motion blur and pristine Blu Ray movies.

If you go LCD, check out the Samsung LED LCD TV's. Amazing picture but on the high end price wise. If you like Sony I read someplace the Sony and Sharp actually get their LCD screens from the same manufacturer. The software running the screen is different, but the screen is the same - so Sharp might give you more bang for your buck.

When I was looking I was originally going to get a Sony -its a solid choice.

Isn't Black Friday kind of like the tax free weekend? People spend more money than they normally do because they believe they're saving money with the sales.

Thanks. I have to "work" this morning because you idiots wake up at 3 am and stampede each other like a bunch of cattle because you think you'll save a few dollars. I really can't complain - I'm just sitting here sippin my coffee keeping an eye on things with my ptzs, but I should be sleeping if not for you assholes who actually show up to this giant sham perpetrating this ritual every year. Wife got me the PS3 Bundle at Wal-Mart. We were actually lucky because we got there at 4:30 and still managed to get in line and still barely get one. Now the question is, do I go with NBA2K or Live??

We just got a few cameras, Wii Fit, Ipod Touch, Rock Band and that was it. Is it true that if you use the HDMI hookup for Blue Ray you can't tell much difference if the TV is 720p? I'm not real particular about it. As long as the picture isn't fuzzy it is good enough for me. I don't need to be able to count nose hairs to enjoy a good movie.

I just love HDMI because, in the first decade of the 21st century, they FINALLY came up with ONE CORD to connect a video device, complete with state of the art audio, to a TV output.

If you are running out of HDMI ports, the component (three color) ports can display in HD as well though the sound will be only stereo.
