Magic’s Howard fined by NBA for comments on blog (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=ap-magic-howardfined&prov=ap&type=lgns)

Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard has been fined $15,000 by the NBA for publicly criticizing officials on his blog.

The league made the announcement Tuesday.

The comments were posted on Howard’s blog after the Magic’s loss to Detroit last week. Howard fouled out in the game after playing a little more than 16 minutes.

He wrote on his blog: “How can that be, ya’ll? It was crazy. They called me for a charge on a flop, a push off when the defender was on me and two fouls on blocked shots.”

Howard also wrote that he hadn’t played “that little in a game since I was 10 years old in pee-wee ball.” He said, “What really bothers me is they are letting guys hammer me at one end of the floor, yet I’m being called for everything.”

Isn't there a rule that players/coaches can't criticize officiating? Just seems like a rule being enforced. I know there is freedom of speech, but when you're in a 'club' you play by their rules.

DHoward, you are the new Shaq. Get used to it. If you win a championship they'll start letting you get away with more, like lowering your shoulder into a guy to make room for a dunk. You'll still get hammered at the other end though, so....

2nd amendment ?

I don't think guns are allowed on the court. It would be somewhat humorous to see dhow pull out a pocket pistol, shoot his defender, then dunk on him. Call a timeout to reload.

Players should be able to say what they believe.

I bet the league keeps this rule in place to keep it from being a whinefest. Probably wouldn't do the league any good to be known as employing a bunch of whiners.
