I expect a loss, but some of that will depend on how Dallas does tonight. If Jennings scorches the Mavs for 55 points tonight, Spurs are screwed on Wednesday.

when your playing in division opponents their could be "must wins" . the spurs can get an advantage with the tiebreaker this week

There are no must win games in November. Not even in instances where a potential tiebreaker that might come in handy 70 games down the road is involved.

The must win games are those against teams the Spurs should beat. Against division rivals that are good splits are expected. I don't consider this a must win game. But I do think experimenting with the roster needs to tone down a bit and allow those that are going to play the most minutes during the season a chance to start gelling together even if in the beginning they might not play as well.

aside from the last two weeks when playoff positioning is at stake there are NO must win agmes in the NBA regular season. Especially not for us, especially not against Dallas, especially when its the 9th game of the season. Come on now.

Own us the "past few years". You mean game 7 in ot in 2006? That was a damn good serious and we fell short. I would hardly call that ownage. Props to the Mavs.

A Championship in 2007. Enough said. No ownage there.:lobt:

In 2008, the Mavs beat us 4-1 in the playoffs. Yep, they kicked our ass. But was anyone surprised? A Manuless, and one-legged Timmy is no serious match up for any playoff team, including Dallas. This is not ownage-this is getting while the getting hot. This was a great opportunity for Dallas to beat us while we were down. And beat us easily they did. I don't believe any serious basketball fan ever expected the Spurs to win that series. The outcome was not a surprise.

2009, I don't believe Duncan, Parker Manu and the Spurs feel they are owned by any team much less the Mavs. I think Mav fans are delusional to really believe they own us. They are a good team and a dangerous one but they don't own the Spurs. GMAFB...

The positives of this potential win have a greater magnitude than the negatives of a loss, so this is not a must win. A highly desired win though definitely.

Meaningless game. Pop needs to get serious about rotations by Christmas. The only part of this game that is vital is how we match up defensively. We need two units that play D. We have more than enough O campared to last season.

The outcome of this game is not that important to the Spurs except that it is always nice to bitch slap Miss Dirk & co. for the sheer fun of it. The Spurs will be their best in the playoffs as usual. As far as the Mavs go, the only question is WHEN they will choke. History tends to repeat itself.

No chance in hell we win this game. Spurs were getting bad calls in San Antonio against this team, can you imagine the horse shit calls in Dtown?

Also, Josh Howard will be out, which might actually be a bad thing. He chunked up like 7 straight horrible misses against us last game, all within three minutes. Didn't look like Spurs kryptonite. Helped us get running and score points lol.

Seriously though, no way we win this game. Spurs are still playing lineup derby.

If the Spurs lose, it won't be because of lack of talent, but rather because of a lack of team chemistry.

Joey Crawford will be there.....

There's actually a really good chance that will be true. Joey's in Houston tonight and hasn't worked a game in Dallas this year.

I'm pretty confident that Joey either has SA/DAL on Wednesday or UTH/SA on Thursday.

FromWayDowntown
11-17-2009, 11:16 AM
I start the season presuming a Spurs/Mavs split. If either team gets a road win in the first 2 matchups, they gain a distinct advantage in winning the season series; it was important for the Spurs to get the game in SA last week. But they're not likely to sweep the Mavericks and they're very likely to lose one or both games in Dallas. If they lose on Wednesday, it will be par for the course. I can't say that losing a game in that situation would be disasterous for the Spurs.

NBA Final Game 7 is a must win. That's all.

So I guess if you're down 3 - 2 in game 6 of the conference semis, that's not a must-win either? Or if there's one spot left in the playoffs, and a win would get you in, that's not a must-win either?

Settle down cowboy, let's not get carried away here.

This is a good time for Pop to create a rotation and stick with it win or lose.

I still like Duncan, Dice, RJ, Manu and Parker on the floor a the beginning of the game. These guys need to learn how to play together so let them play.

Definitely not a must win game, but hell, why not win it anyway ...

Could be an opportunity for a big game by TD, since both Dampier and Marion likely won't play.

No Dampier?

So that means we'll be going small all game so we don't have an unfair advantage right? I mean thats what we've been doing all season, letting the other team dictate our lineups, so why stop now...

I hope we get vbookie as early as tonight. I'm going out of town tomorrow, and I want to place a bet before I leave.

Last time I thought I bet 16,000 for Jefferson to get over 17 points. I was all excited while at the game thinking I won $32,000.
I got home and logged on to ST and apparently, I had mistakenly bet $16 not $16,000, so I ended up with a grand total win of $32.

The Spurs need to get some kind of momentum going. I know it's early, but even Pop admitted the early games mean more now than they did last year.

Having said that, I think the Mavs are gonna curb stomp the Spurs.

But I also thought the same a week ago

I echo the sentiments of coyote_geek and FWD.

Or,

- No must-wins in November.
- This game, particularly is not a must-win for the Spurs in terms of the regular season series between division rivals.

That said, obviously I hope they win. But mostly because I don't think I can take the shower rod leaping that will occur if they lose this game.
