View Full Version : Do you like your teams coach?

A year ago, I was calling for Porter's head. My fellow Suns fans at phxsuns.net were all on the "give him time before you make a judgement" but it seemed obvious to me that Terry Porter was bizarrely inept. Ive never seen a coach just not make substitutions in the first and third quarter. Ive never heard a coach say "he normally doesnt shoot those" about the leagues leading three point shooter.

Anyway, this year, I find that Im not questioning Gentry and seem to agree with most of what he does. Maybe its because the Suns are winning or because its not like he has a whole lot of options, but for the first time since the beginning of 2004, I actually like our coach.

So who else is pleased with their coaching staff? Who wants their coach gone yesterday?

I really, really like Gentry. He's good with players, he seems to be holding guys accountable for their defense, he makes good substitutions, he plays a 10-man rotation... Lots of things to gush about. But I've yet to see Gentry perform in the playoffs, so there's no telling how good of a coach he really is.

i like carlisle a lot. i think he has done a very solid job. sometimes it seems like he does things that make no sense, but i think he knows what he is doing, and constantly has the big picture in mind, which is what i like most about him. last year he did several things that didnt seem to make much sense, but later on in the year, you could see things unfold more as the team finished the season quite strong, despite a terrible start, and the players i think realized that too, as reports said early on, they werent really digging rick, but by the end of the year, they loved him.

Gentry never really had a fair shake as a coach prior to this year.....he's way better than Porter and way better than Antoni.

I am pretty happy of the job Carlisle has done with us. After the 08 playoffs I thought the Mavs were done.

I'd like Carlisle if I was a Mavs fan, but it's too bad he doesn't preach TRAN-ZISH-EE-OWN DEEEE-FENSE

If anyone on Dallas is related to AJ it's Jason Terry.

a lot of good coach seems to have a love affair with bad players..

Pop= Finley
Phil= Fisher
Carlisle= Barea
Sloan= Matt Harpring(that's done now that Harpring is done, but it was going on for years)

Pop can be a stubborn motherfucker, but other than that, I couldn't think of a better coach for the Spurs.

JJB was Carlisle's "it" thing last year. It was the most tangible new asset that he developed from a Mavs roster that people thought had nothing left to give. Some of our success, some of the key games we won, last year is attributable to JJB.

So I do understand why Carlisle still trusts JJB quite a bit. I also know that Roddy has quite a transition to make, beginning with the fact that he barely speaks english. But Carlise is not stupid, he saw what happened tonight when Roddy was on Jennings. He knows, we know, that this team can't be elite with JJB playing 25 minutes a game, but he doesn't want to overdo a guy that might already be over his head. Roddy will be the main asset he has to develop now, but Roddy also requires patience from everyone, Carlisle included.

LOL just saw IronMexican's post..that's strange, but I think he thought of it in the same way, which was after a Mavs fan mentioned that Carlisle loves Barea..

NuggetsFan brought up a good one with Karl-Carter too..that was always a great thing for people cheering against Denver, looks like it might be stopping this year though, sad..

Who's New Orleans' coach now?..

Well, i still hate the system that preaches jumpshooting and running rather than guarding people and getting high% shots but.....Gentry has at least found a rotation worthy of NBA standards and recognizes that getting stops is important.

I'm not sure where i stand yet. Somewhere in the middle. I still don't think this team wins a playoff series regardless of how many reg season games we tally up. Not enough D or rebounding.

I'm happy with John Kuester so far. He is a throw-back to what Larry Brown preached around here. He's been a good teacher thus far, which is why a player like Kwame Brown and the rookies of Daye and Jerebrko are playing some great basketball.

Especially after the fiasco last season with Mike Curry, he has been a breath of fresh-air around here.
