Carlisle is one of the good coaches in the NBA, but this is ridiculous. How many times are they gonna do a pick n' roll with Dirk and Terry before we decide to adjust ?

Playing 1 vs 1 on Dirk Nowitzki when your defenders are Matt Bonner, an old Antonio McDyess and DeJuan Blair ???

Finally... down by 6... 30 seconds left ... he chooses not to foul ? lol, of course they were gonna run down the shot clock, what were the spurs gonna do ? score 7 points in 6 seconds ???

I'm not saying Pop is a bad coach ... he's obviously a great coach, but he took some obviously stupid decisions tonight.

Turnovers really killed us - and that's most likely the result of not having Tony on the floor. Man - this season started so good and I was so pumped - now I am depressed and can hardly watch a whole game unless it's a blow out. The Spurs just can't close out games the way they used to.

On another note - the Suns were the 1st team to 10 wins - and the Spurs have only PLAYED 9 games. I hate the NBA and the Refs and Dirk and Mark Cuban and the announcers - have I missed anybody?

No one outside of Dice proved themselves to be potential crunch time performer today.

Hill scored some, but he made rookie decisions on both offense and defense, and didn't know where his best player was.

At the moment RJ's effectiveness is a big question mark. He's aggressive, but hasn't gotten results outside of the Manu led team those two games.
So far his usefulness just feels weird.

You cant depend on an injury-prone player and then blame every loss on their absence.

I wasn't blaiming the loss on manu's absence, I was saying that all we got out of this game was another injury to ginobili, a loss to a division rival, and OT minutes in the first game of a back to back

Get use to it, thats his game now.

I'm used to it. I remember in game 5 in 2005, Tim missing the potential put back game winner and really being shaken after it.
That's why I don't get mad when Timmy's the only one there to carry the team, like in today's game .

Tony and Manu helped mask that aspect to Tim's "failed" put backs, and his occasional two foot misses. :lol

His ratio of makes to misses is usually in our favor in spite of the weak sauce. People forget he made clutch FT's today to at least give us a chance. Just like in that Game 5.

Standing around and waiting for TD to win the game? Hill waiting for the players to come up court and set the play when he has the ability to attack tie irm and doesn't? I understand this is a work in progress but we need some practice time or something. This is ugly and very frustating to watch. This team sometimes has no idea where anyone is on the floor is at times. RJ needs to pay attention and get eye contact before passing the rock. This one was there for the taking and we didn't execute. As time goes on hopefully this will start to dimish but I need to see that happening before I'm hopeful.

I'm not a happy camper right now.

But it is early and there is time ot adjust. No Manu and Tony and we lose in OT. I believe things will get better.

It's a long season.

Yeah, but it wasn't just the chip shot. He tossed up two absolutely horrible shots with DIRK guarding him after that miss. If Tim can't score on Dirk I don't know who he can score on consistently.

His numbers were great, rebounding was great, defense was fantastic in the 2nd half, and he made great passes. However, his post offense was horrendous tonight. No excuse for letting Drew Gooden and Dirk lock him down.

Better D on the road, so that was a good thing to see. Offensively, the team still seem disjointed. Looked like Gooden had a message to deliver and played well offensively and grabbed some athletic boards. Shame they didn't pull it out, but it still seems like progress on the Defense.
And hey, I got to see some Hairston out there!

Despite some of Duncan's weak finishes he played well. Almost carried us to a win. Only thing that bugs me is that he gets no respect from the refs.

Jefferson was disappointing. I expected to see more urgency from him. He's definitely not worth his salary.

Mason is absolutely horrible. I don't know what happened to him over the off-season. Maybe the news that he was almost traded during the summer shook him up and he's resigned himself to put no more effort into the team. I'm still hoping we can package him in a trade.

although I tell you, I am shocked Pop left Bonner on Dirk for as long as he did. and you watch Pop's empty expression like he doesn't care. they kept dumping it to Dirk and you were helpless to just sit there and watch the thing unfold

Nowitzki’s 41 points lead Mavs over Spurs in OT (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap?gid=2009111806&prov=ap)

The Dallas Mavericks needed a big game from Dirk Nowitzki to compensate for the loss of three injured starters, and that’s exactly what he gave them.

Nowitzki scored 11 of his season-high 41 points in overtime and the Mavericks held on to beat the injury-depleted San Antonio Spurs 99-94 on Wednesday night.

Drew Gooden added 17 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out late in the fourth quarter, and Dallas extended its winning streak to four games.

Gooden, who finished last season with the Spurs before signing with the Mavericks on July 20, started at center with Erick Dampier out because of an unknown illness. Dallas was also without starters Josh Howard and Shawn Marion because of left ankle injuries.

“With Josh out and Marion out, I’ve just got to keep going offensively and make things happen,” Nowitzki said after his 14th career game of 40 or more points.

Nowitzki’s three-point play with 2:28 left in overtime put Dallas in front for good, 92-91. After Jason Terry hit a 15-footer, Nowitzki made a 3-pointer on Dallas’ next possession to stretch the lead to 97-91, closing out the Spurs.

“He’s playing great basketball and (I) think he’s one of the top guys right now in the league,” Gooden said. “He’s really playing at a high level. We need that because of all the injuries we have right now and he’s doing everything he can to carry this team.”

Nowitzki went 15 for 29 from the field, converted 10 of 12 free throws and pulled down 12 rebounds to continue a big week for the German superstar.

Nowitzki’s buzzer-beating overtime jumper gave Dallas a 115-113 victory at Milwaukee on Monday night after he scored 25 in a 95-90 road win over Detroit on Sunday.

“I hoped he was having an off night,” said Matt Bonner, one of several Spurs who tried to guard Nowitzki. “I can play perfect defense and jump as high as I can and he can still score.”

Tim Duncan had 22 points and 14 rebounds for the Spurs, winless in four road games this season.

Duncan missed all three shots and went scoreless in overtime, and afterward he blamed himself for the loss.

“I know I played badly in the overtime,” Duncan said. “The OT wasn’t good for us and Dirk really took over and won it for his team.”

The Spurs were without starting guard Tony Parker, who aggravated his sprained left ankle in Saturday night’s loss to Oklahoma City. San Antonio also lost guard Manu Ginobili in the first quarter due to a strained left groin.

“We definitely needed this win because they were without Ginobili and without Parker,” Nowitzki said.

The Spurs certainly missed two of their stars, but the Mavericks were equally short-handed.

“With Tony out and then how Manu went out, it hurt not having them in there,” Duncan said. “But I thought we did a good job keeping it together.”

With the game tied at 80, Gooden was credited with a basket on a goaltending call against Antonio McDyess with 1:58 left in regulation to put Dallas ahead.

Duncan drove to the basket on the next possession and Gooden picked up his sixth foul. Duncan knocked down both free throws to knot the score at 82 with 31 seconds remaining.

Nowitzki’s tip-in 17 seconds later gave Dallas an 84-82 lead, but Duncan’s jump-hook with 2.3 seconds remaining drew San Antonio even.

The Mavs had a shot to win in regulation, but Duncan blocked Terry’s 19-footer at the buzzer.

NOTES: Ginobili started and scored two points in eight minutes of the first quarter, then went to the locker room before the start of the second quarter and was done for the night. Coach Gregg Popovich said Ginobili would sit out Thursday night’s home game against Utah. … Marion was hurt in a game at Milwaukee on Monday night. … Howard missed his eighth game as he recovers from offseason surgery. … Dampier has been undergoing tests to determine the nature of the illness, and results won’t be known until next week. …Thomas made his debut for Dallas after sitting out the first 11 games while he completed his recovery from offseason surgery on his right knee. Thomas, who finished with two points in 14 minutes, was signed as a free agent on July 28.

I'm not surprised they lost. To me, this team is still trying to find its way and I'll admit it's frustrating to watch. I guess it was too much to hope that this team would start the season like the Spurs of earlier years.

But the season has barely begun so maybe these old dudes will get it together by spring. :king

Can't put too much into semi-slow starts. Spurs were 4-5 at this point last season too. But of course they got to 50+ wins like usual like it was no big deal. Mavs started out 2-7 and also ended with 50 wins. Such a long season. :toast

We're not a bunch of Laker fans here, I believe most of us are in it here for the long haul. Let's look at the positives, McDyess is getting his groove, Duncan played great, Malik finally got some much-needed PT and looked good, and George Hill is the future of this franchise.

It's going to take longer than all of us can bear before this team will mesh together. I'd rather we slowly put the pieces together for several more championship drives vs. stitching things up just good enough to make playoffs.

We'll get there.
