Ginobili out, Parker doubtful for Jazz (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Ginobili_out_Parker_doubtful_for_Jazz.html)
Jeff McDonald
DALLAS – The injury bug has bitten the Spurs again.
Tony Parker is doubtful and Manu Ginobili is out for Thursday’s home game against the Utah Jazz.
Parker missed Wednesday night’s 99-94 overtime loss at Dallas with a sprained left ankle that has been bothering him for more than a week. Ginobili, meanwhile, hobbled off the floor 7:28 into his first start of the season with a strained left groin.
Ginobili is set to undergo further tests on the injury Thursday, and won’t play against the Jazz. The injury is unrelated to the hamstring problem that kept him out of the fourth quarter of Saturday’s loss to Oklahoma City.
Limping noticeably as he left American Airlines Center after Wednesday’s game, the 32-year-old Ginobili looked like he was either about to burst into tears or punch a wall. Coming off an injury-shortened 2008-09 campaign, he was clearly dismayed to already be dealing with nagging ailments so early in 2009-10.
“It’s frustrating,” Ginobili said.
It’s already been an eventful season for Ginobili so far. In addition to the injuries, he made headlines for swatting a bat in the middle of an Oct. 31 game, was forced to endure a regimen of rabies vaccinations related to that incident and found out his wife was pregnant with twins – and the season is only nine games old.

hate to say it but looks like mookie2001 was right about Manu all along.
Manu's accomplishments this month read like something out of TMZ: Swats a Bat, Has to Get Rabies shots, PETA Comes after him, His HEB commercials come out, He gets someone pregnant then he gets hurt....again.:depressed

GAWD, that sucks. I was looking forward to seeing my boy D_WILL take it to Parker. While Watching Parker go 1 on 5 with his blinders on, I can think of how nice it would be to have D_WIll a PG who lets the game come to him, Looks for his teammates first and realizes that he can score whenever he wants so why not get others going first. Parker can have his 30pts 5ast while DWIll can have his 22pts 13ast not including the ones where he just simply made the pass that got the BALL MOVING.

Well, we talked about this in the offseason. If the spurs don't want to gamble anymore, wait until he recovers from this and move him.

oh, it is not fun. When your a slasher and a vicious one like ginobili, a groin problem is worse than an ankle injury IMO.

Hate to say it but it is painfully clear this team is going nowhere without a healthy Manu.
It is also painfully clear this team would have a couple less rings without Manu, even with TP and TD playing at the top of their games.

God forbid, if TD has to carry the team this season, the way he did versus the Mavs. He was brilliant, but it's too taxing on him.

What makes you so sure that Parker won't play? And why should Pop rush to give Sloan that info?

Parker reaggravated his injury. We know Parker wants to play through the injury and unless Pop gives a 100% negative, he is probably going to try to play. Who cares about Sloan? I bet he does not even want his players to know Parker is not playing.

Maybe that was the plan though to give him tonight off and let him run vs the Jazz.

My idea was to send him to Detroit straight up for Rip Hamilton...but hell, now he is hurt too.

:(
I''m sure Manu really hates the idea of an uncertain future, all hinging on his durability this season--what with news of the twins, desiring to settle down in SA locking up the re-signing as the ideal.
This is not only going to be physically hampering, I don't know how he's going to be "mentally" when he returns from this injury. His heads probably going to be in the clouds in the long term now. Up until now, he still played heady, confidently and competitively with leadership in facilitating the offense. Now he's going to be super passive.
The only silver lining is this is November and not right before the playoffs. Hopefully things tip in the Spurs favor in the coming months.

poor baby
if he was smart with his money he would not worry about getting another fat contract
he turned done the extension talks not the spurs
hard to feel bad for him with the extension
feel bad for him for injury though
Welcome to free agency 2010, Manu

I'm fairly sure it's safe to say he's smarter with his money than you are.
And he didn't turn down any extensions talk, the Spurs did.
Lastly, I really doubt a contract extension is what's on his mind right about now.
no parker and no manu for tonight does not equal a loss but the reserves have to step up and the defense has to be solid tonight.

well Manu was clearly in pain which means he is at least 2-3 weeks out which means a bigger possibility of serious injury that could pretty much sit him down for months if not the rest of the season.
sad, cause without a healthy Manu this team isn't winning jackshit

This may sound weird, but Peter Burns and Andy made an awesome point this morning. As Spurs Fans we love Manu Ginobili. Many of us love him more than Parker obviously and even Duncan. We would hate to see him leave, but at the same time business is business and he is not worth $10million sitting on the bench wearing a suit. Peter and Andy pointed out, that each time Ginobili gets hurt; better yet for each limp he loses money and his Value on the market goes down. The sorry teams will pay him good money. But Manu wants to win and keep winning. None of the good teams are going to give him a large 5yr contract. But the Spurs can probably get away with 3yrs at the MLE with the 3rd yr being partially guaranteed. That way if he wants to retire a spur he can. At the start of the season Ginobili probably couldve demanded an extension for a large contract for $8 million a year. With each injury, that $8-9 million a year gig starts to chip away. The spurs know it and Manu knows it. Thats the good thing. At $5million we could have a guy who is injured occasionally and at the same time an unexpensive x-factor/allstar that changes the dynamics of a predictable team.
