- Diego is my favorite MMA fighter, and when he says the gameplan for Penn is "to kick his ass," I trust that his cardio, ground game, and explosiveness are at the best they have ever been. Penn is great, but I feel that preparing for Diego and actually dealing with him in the octagon are completely different things. This fight is all about guerilla warfare, short bursts of ultra-violence designed to stop the tanks on either side. If this goes to Round 5, Diego will win easily because the judges will not decide his destiny.
Heavyweight bout: Cheick Kongo vs. Frank Mir
- Two very strong guys, but Mir is smarter.
Welterweight bout: Jon Fitch vs. Mike Pierce
- Despite both fighters having a string of decisions, I say Fitch tries to prove a point on Pierce's face.
Lightweight bout: Kenny Florian vs. Clay Guida
- Kenny probably feels he lost respect for getting subbed by Penn, which is probably true cuz it was so obvious where that fight was going when he gave his back up. It's a redemption match. I expect Guida to land some good punches early on, but the second that clay'n'pray shows up Kenny will find a way to submit him.
Heavyweight bout: Paul Buentello vs. Stefan Struve
- I think this will be a really good match, either one has the skills to win it IMO. Struve is going to want to keep it on the ground, but I don't think his arms are strong enough to submit Buentello. This is not a decision-type match, someone is going to sleeping on the mat and I think it's Struve.

Shit talk before the fight, Kongo not wanting to acknowledge Mir's existence. Mir said he'd hurt him for life, so I can understand why Kongo might be a little upset. I think this fight is practice for Mir working at 265, cuz I don't remember him being THAT big. But Kongo will not go lightly into this good night, I think he's been working on his weakness just enough to make it an interesting match.

Buentello vs Struve was good, classy show of respect by Struve at the end in honoring his elder. Kenny vs Guida was good, some great elbows by K-Flo. Fitch vs Pierce was good, was rooting for Pierce at the end even though I knew Fitch got the points. Kongo would never tap for Mir after all the trash talk, for a second I thought Mir crushed Kongo's skull with his pythons.

Diego getting caught in the opening seconds completely wrecked his game. After never being knocked down in his career, to be on the defensive against someone like Penn while getting hit HARD -- put him in survival mode, which was awkward and painful to watch. I really feel like Diego expected to exchange with Penn (poor coaching maybe?), but Penn isn't Guida or Stevenson...HE COUNTERS WTF OMG BBQ. I kept yelling at the TV cuz his tactics were so predictable and expending so much energy trying to take down the most flexible fighter in the UFC. Diego's BJJ is a great weapon when he's on the ground, but when he can't take Penn down what can he do...exchange punches? Fuck. So disappointed, but Diego kept fighting and if it weren't for the GIANT CUT...the last 30 seconds would have resulted in Diego being knocked out because he wouldn't let that shit go to the judges.

So yea, Penn hits hard. I hope GSP makes him throw in the towel again. :wakeup

Mirs left send Kongo down and then Frank went to the ground and mad a guilotine choke without a guard. Pretty impressive. Kongo was switched off.

Both fighters got good shots in, and IMHO I think Buentello edged it out, but there was no robbing since he had his chances to go in for the kill but he was gassed. Very good match to start the night and both fighters were able to more or less show what they do best.

He wasn't worked or pushed at all because Diego was so rocked in the first round. I have a hard time believing anyone else would have survived and kept trying to exchange punches/takedowns when obviously that shit isn't gonna fly...Diego's body was moving but the energy was sucked out when he got caught and couldn't recover all his marbles, he was running on heart and the refusal to surrender. :(

Most exciting fight for BJ by far at 170 is Alves. We know it is gonna be a stand up fight at least until BJ could hurt him and get it down. But Alves is a 200 pd WW, with a good chin and big power, BJ has great boxing, i'd love to see that fight. I think if KOS fought smart with his wrestling, he'd beat BJ..
