View Full Version : Memo to Board: The Purpose of Basketball

I really don't mind sharing my extensive knowledge so let me educate for a sec....For those complaining about Kobe padding his stats my message to you is get over yourselves. Once again the self righteousness of the Bible-Belt, chest thumping, southern states is on full display.

The mission of Phil and Co. is to win by executing while demoralizing opponents in the process...basically take your heart and see if you have any left next time you step on the court...this is the NBA not Christian Basketball Association...the burden of proof is up to your team not the Lakers. it's called The ART OF WAR...so if up by 1 or 30 we want to send a message...A decent example would be playing to win vs. playing not to lose. If up by 20 you should never change your strategy and start playing not to lose the game because inevitably you'll end up losing the game. The same concept when up by 30...you don't pull a player for fear he might get injured, or out of some misguided respect for your opponent you pull a player to get him some rest and apparently Phil felt that whomever he had in the game was rested enough. Phil has 10 rings and I'm sure he's seen it all on the court. I'm sure back in the day the haters thought WILT should have been pulled while playing against midgets to score 100 points....but The Art of War doesn't work that way...

And lastly even if Kobe is pad stating I'm ok with it...as the hardest worker in the league today he deserves to go down as the all time in many categories but make no mistake Kobe doesn't need to break records to get what he's ultimately after...MJ's record of 6 rings...he has love for the game and still wants to be the best and if you know any thing about competition and intestinal fortitude then you should be fine with that...you other couch potatoes... wish you were a motherfucker like me I don't expect to understand.

So lets get Snoop straight:

He's a Lakers fan when the Lakers are a contender, and a Warriors fan when LA sucks and Golden State is an exciting 8 seed upsetting a 1 seed.

He's a Steelers/Patriots/Raiders fan. He's lived in Cali his entire life, so 1/3 makes sense, however him liking two teams that happen to be the two most successful teams this decade is baffling.

He's a Yankees/Dodgers fan. Again, the Dodger thing makes sense, but being a fan of what happens to be the most winningest baseball team ever makes little to no sense.

An Unbiased Fan

True, that happens all the time. Always the Tarheels for basketball, but for football it rotates between whichever Florida school is on top. Early 90's it was FSU, Late 90's/Early 00's it was Miami, and right now it's Florida.

And I hate to be racist about it, but I don't know how it's racist when it's true - it's all black people that do that sort of college bandwagoning.

I'm pretty certain every black male in America is a Tarheels fan. Well, 98% because there's probably a few Georgetown holdouts left.

I like when you get the ol' "I root for ____ team in football and ______ team in basketball. And almost every time, it's UF for football and UNC for basketball. Also a lot of people who do that for USC football and UCLA bball out here.

At least UF and UNC are unrelated, the people who like UCLA basketball and USC football or in my case UA basketball and ASU football (even though UA is currently the better program) are hilarious cause those are rival schools. It'd be a little odd to go from talking shit about UCLA football to cheering for their basketball team.

Really? I thought she was one of the ones that had season tickets and had been going for years, and even stuck with them for the Del Harris/Cedric Ceballos years.

That's a good test, at least for Laker fans of the last 20 years.

Great pics! The Lakers truly are Showtime. Don't hate, you hicks, appreciate. NBA would be boring without the Lake Show.

P.S. Stop clinging to guns or religion.

I abhor guns and eschew religion, but I HATE the Cult of Celebrity. As if the world needs famous people... FUCK FAME! It's an entirely false value.

I think Ice Cube definitely is. He was on NFL Network a couple months back and answered almost every single Raiders trivia question. Some tough ones, too. I still know more than him.

Well, I'm a Tarheels fan, but my dad's family is from North Carolina.
