This looks about right. I was surprised that KG has quite an international fan base.

Add in Yao and Yi

Kobe jerseys are worn by most inmates in China. Most of them having rape cases filed against them

From Asia: Kobe Bryant. No question. People who don't watch basketball even know the guy's name at least. Yao Ming and Yi Jianlian obviously. I think Dwight Howard is pretty famous around these parts too because of the Superman gimmick dunk, (All-star weekend was shown for people who have access to ESPN). Rockets players are huge in China. So you know McGrady has fans.

Most popular probaly Kobe, Iverson and Wade. The latter two mostly due to fashion because some dumbass decided it's hip if you're below 20, listen to hip hop music and wear an Iverson jersey even though most the guy's wearing his jersey know shit about basketball and Iverson himself. Well, that's at least true for Middle-Europe.

In the early years of the century was definitely a battle between Shaq and Kobe and even though King James is on everyone's radar right now I see only very few Cleveland and LeBron fans here.

In the 90's it was not even close. Jordan, Jordan, Jordan... he made wearing basketball jerseys and having fan stuff fashionable. Even young pre-schoolers were running around with Bulls stuff back then even though they had nothing to do with basketball.

If I had to put up a list right now for the whole of Europe it would probably be like this.

#1 Jordan
#2 Kobe
#3 Iverson
#4 Wade
#5 Garnett
#6 Stoudemire
#7 Duncan
#8 T-Mac

I left out players like Yao, Dirk, Manu and other international players on purpose since the original question was about Amercian players.

In Europe Kobe is by far number one, and I think Iverson had a strong following as well. LeBron isn't quite there yet.

From the European players I think Dirk is highly regarded, being the only European MVP ever and for leading a bunch of amateurs with Germany's national team. Italians love Ginobili though from his time there. He is quite the hero over there.
