View Full Version : Players you don't want to like but do

Watching Warriors v Mavs and I'm thinking about a guy I drafted in DL I this year - Kris Humphries. Crazy-eyed, unskilled yeti that he is, he's also a reincarnation of Mark Madsen when he got on the court for any length of time; full of exciting hustle plays, and crazy steroid-and-creatine-abusing-preppy-white-guy zaniness. I want to dislike the guy, but I end up liking him.

Red Rocket has a similar charm for different reasons.

Even Mikki Moore - ugly, unimaginative game, but by the Universe you have to respect his work ethic because he's survived 12 years in the league!

Then I see JET... but yeah, I just hate him... there's no ambiguity there! :lmao

You got any guys you want to hate but end up appreciating?

Kobe I guess, I appreciate him, but can't stand him at the same time.

definitely Kobe. I don't like him, but when he makes alot of great plays, I can't help but be amazed by him.

That's like Mikki Moore for me - the respect is there, but me no likey.

I actually like Humphries (and Bonner) though... see, I think another part of this is that Humphries is a bench player who really shouldn't elicit much of a response either way.

I'm sure there are more for me. I'll put them in here as I find them.

For me he's more respect than like, once again.

Orlando Magic--I hate them. They are undersized, underskilled, but they keep winning ball games. What does that say about out league?
Steve Nash.
Ron Artest--He gives me breaks when he puts a crop circle in his hair or gets in someone's face, however.
Dwyane Wade--He's undersized and his uniform is ugly. I always think he's one bad injury away from being a highlight film and a sad story. But he gets it done.

I'd say Ray Allen also.
Dirk Nowitzki
Steve Nash

LeBron James. Hate his attitude. But when I watch him play, he makes me realise that when he retires, there will not be a player like him until the next century.

He's close, but the league lets him get away with more than Kobe, in their desparation for a Kobe replacement.

You really wonder how the motherfucker can move so fast while dribbling as he blitzed past the other team's point guard while he just walked 3 steps for a breakaway dunk.

OK, you might not like his bug-eyed reactions on the court, but how is Tim Duncan phony? He's just a relaxed island guy/big geek who enjoys RPG's and video games. It's honestly hard for me to think of someone more comfortable in their own skin than Tim Duncan.

Sure, he hasn't ass raped a Colorado snootchie, but, he starts his histrionics, carping & ref baiting just a smidge after opening tip, and he don't stop until the final buzzer.

Probably Andrew Bynum. I don't want to like him because he's destined to be Oden's rival for the next 10 years, but I do like his game.

Rasheed. Was already a fan before he was a Piston. Became a bigger fan while he was in Detroit. He's a loudmouth and a whiner, a three point chucker and now a d-bag Celtics player. But that's still my guy.

Kenyon Martin. Lol he's a punk but he can be so entertaining.

Chris Paul. Drama queen, but I love his game.

Amare Stoudemire. I can't even explain this one. I like the guy.

Lebron for sure, I don't like him, but he's earn my respect when he faced boston 2 years ago being the only option for the team in game 7.

JamStone
11-25-2009, 11:28 AM
It might be his stat padding late in blowout losses. Down 20 with like 2 minutes left in a game, you can count on Amare still being on the court and you can count on him running the floor to get a couple more dunks in.

Like I said, I can't explain it. But I like Amare.

Diaw.

I don't like him when he plays for the French NT(because he usually sucks).

I still like his game and he's really talented despite being lazy, soft and too fat now.

Rasheed Wallace, ever since he was with Portland and Ronnie Garrettson threw him out of a game for looking at him the wrong way. "He'th trying to intimidate me!"

I think Wade's grown a little since coming into the league. He's just about the same height as Kobe. And he's a beast

Kobe. I want to hate him because a lot of Laker fans are such douches and because he has been the Spurs major rival for 10 years now, but he's awesome to watch, doesn't resort to cheap crap like flopping and trying to injure other players, and has the best looking jumper I have ever seen. Besides, what kind of basketball fan can hate a top-10 all-time player?

JoeTait75
11-25-2009, 01:25 PM
Yeah, I like Kobe too. But I prefer the stone-cold, loner, assassin Kobe to the B.S. wholesome, family-man Kobe.

I guess Joakim Noah. I hated him at Florida cause he just pissed me off. I even cheered for UCLA both times cause he annoyed me. It's hard not to like him after that playoff series vs the C's. He shows emotion no matter what.

CP3 - he's earned his status as the best PG
Kobe - used to not care for one way or another but now I like
LeBron - hate the photography, hate the tatoo, but still gotta watch when he plays
Dwight - thought he was over-rated for the longest time
Nash - ugly little dude with a beautiful game

Manu Ginobili - I used to hate this fucker, but he was just so damn clutch in his heyday, and he always kills the Suns. Hard to hate such a fierce competitor.

Dirk. He plays for the Mavs, listens to Hasselhoff and knocks up psychopaths...but I love the mans game. There never has....nor will there ever be a 7 footer with such a pure shooting stroke.

Dirk.

Birdman. (not a fan of super-druggies, but his game is awesome)

Iverson. Yeah, he's kind of emo now, but you can't deny that one of the smallest dudes on the court played hurt for a lot of his career and that takes a lot of determination.

Kobe. I don't really like him, but you have to respect his game.

Bonner. :lol

How about non-core players you shouldn't feel anything about (read post #4)?

11-25-2009, 06:09 PM
Kobe&Shaq both fall into this category with me. Also Matt Harpring.

TP also is a player I am unsure how I feel about. I can't say a single bad thing about him and he play on my favourite team but I don't like him too much; no idea why...

Explain to me how that is ironic.

Are you serious?

Its ironic because a guy who speaks English as a second language does the best in-game and post-game interview. You wouldnt expect a guy to express better insight over guys who speak English as a first language.
