Q: The Lakers were talking about getting a fill-in for Luke [Walton]. What about Robert Horry?

-Julie Brennan

Laguna Hills

A: Just for you, I put a phone call in to Horry to see how he feels about playing for the Lakers again. Now, I reminded him that he hasn't played going on two seasons, since he last suited up for the San Antonio Spurs following the 2007-08 season.

But he reminded me that he still has not officially retired. So, would you consider coming back to play for the Lakers? "If they call me, I would play," Horry said. "I can do better than half of the players in the NBA. . . . And I'm in shape too."

Dude, you're 39. "I'd come out there for a 10-day [contract]," Horry said, laughing.

Well, Julie, there you have it. But don't expect the Lakers to reach out to Horry, even if he has won seven NBA championships, three with the Lakers.

Boozer a target of the Bulls?

10:17AM ET
Carlos Boozer | Jazz (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=uth)

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nba/players/65/1703.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1703) Carlos Boozer (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1703) scored 28 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and dished out 5 assists Thursday against the Bulls. Is he someone Chicago should pursue next summer? Mike McGraw of the Daily Herald (http://www.dailyherald.com/story/?id=340206&src=150) has some thoughts on that topic.
McGraw writes: "There are so many stellar free agents coming on the market next summer, it's easy to forget about Boozer. If he keeps playing the way he did against the Bulls, Boozer will rank just below guys such as LeBron James (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1966), Dwyane Wade (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1987), Joe Johnson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1007) and Chris Bosh (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1977). ... There are plenty of free-agent targets, but the Bulls have no one who can score on the blocks like Boozer did Thursday night."
Boozer is feeling so good now that he's focusing on making the All-Star team.
"A hundred percent. I feel like I'm an All-Star when I'm playing at the level I can play at when I'm healthy and it was one of my goals, to get back to the elite level," Boozer told The Salt Lake Tribune (http://www.sltrib.com/sports/ci_13881521).

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nba/players/65/2389.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2389) The Timberwolves may be 1-15, but Al Jefferson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2389) still sees a better future for himself and the franchise.
"I'm taking it day by day," Jefferson told the Star Tribune (http://www.startribune.com/sports/wolves/76779497.html?page=1&c=y). "I really believe the GM (David Kahn), the coaching staff didn't come here to lose and I'm pretty sure they have a plan. Hopefully, I'm a part of it and we can keep it rolling and get it better."

Luxury tax hindering Bulls?

http://a.espncdn.com/i/teamlogos/nba/med/trans/chi.gif (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=chi)The Bulls have two open roster spots, but they probably won't sign a player now because it could push them over the luxury tax threshold. "That's something we're continuing to look at, adding another player," general manager Gar Forman told the Chicago Sun-Times (http://www.suntimes.com/sports/basketball/bulls/1908507,CST-SPT-bullnt28.article). "We're not gonna do anything as of right now, but it's something we may do as we move forward."
The Bulls are far enough under the tax line and could sign a player to the pro-rated minimum and not go over the threshold.

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nba/players/65/1724.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1724) Pistons forward Tayshaun Prince (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1724) won't even think about returning until he begins having consecutive pain-free days with his injured back (ruptured disk). He also says there is no timetable to return.
"We did not talk about it," Prince told The Detroit News (http://www.detnews.com/article/20091128/SPORTS0102/911280318/1127/sports0102/Tayshaun-Prince-taking-recovery-slow). "Nobody has talked about it. It is a situation where they are putting me in position to feel good in consecutive days, rather than being up and down."
Prince spoke with a number of NBA players and they told him not to return too quickly from the back injury.
"It is a situation where (the injury) can keep coming back," Prince said. "This is definitely a situation where I have to take my time, and it is frustrating because the team is not doing well right now and you want to jump out there and help them. At the same time, you have to be patient."

"It'll be soon," he told The Dallas Morning News (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/stories/112809dnspomavslede.2fbf186f8.html). "Maybe next week."

Smith for FOXSports.com (http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/10440372/Sixers-appear-ready-to-bring-back-Iverson) is reporting this morning that the 76ers are talking about signing Allen Iverson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=366).
"It's being seriously considered," one 76ers official said Friday night. "We know the history. We know the ups and downs. But we're also aware of what Iverson can do and that he's needed here. We simply can't just ignore the upside he'd bring. Not with our situation."
According to Smith, head coach Eddie Jordan is on board with signing Iverson and he will fly to Atlanta and speak with the former 76er on Tuesday.
Team sources also tell Smith that Iverson would start if he signs.

Why can the Warriors keep Hunter?

Chris Hunter | Warriors (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=gsw)

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nba/players/65/3962.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3962) League rules mandate a maximum 15-man roster, however there are times when a team is allowed to go over the limit. Marcus Thompson II of The Oakland Tribune (http://www.insidebayarea.com/sports/ci_13882880) explains how the Warriors were able to sign and keep Chris Hunter (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3962) on the team.
"Despite possibly having 11 players available, the Warriors still qualify for the roster exemption they were granted to sign center Chris Hunter from the NBA Development League. The league requires at least four players who have missed the last three games and aren't expected back for at least two weeks. Brandan Wright (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3242) (shoulder), Kelenna Azubuike (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2821) (knee), Speedy Claxton (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=150) (knee) and Raja Bell (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=49) (wrist) all fit those parameters. Still, the petition for an extra roster spot must be renewed every two weeks."

Return of Big Shot Rob to Lakers?

Could the Lakers sign Robert Horry (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=347)? Broderick Turner of the Los Angeles Times (http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-spw-lakers-qa28-2009nov28,0,3402097.story) called the former Laker and here's what he said: "If they call me, I would play. I can do better than half of the players in the NBA. ... And I'm in shape too. ... I'd come out there for a 10-day contract," Horry said, laughing.
Turner doesn't expect the Lakers to reach out to Horry, even though he has won three championships with the Lakers.

Here's his answer:
"Man, you're giving up on Jordan and Sasha already. Didn't they just help the Lakers win the NBA championship? Of the two, however, Vujacic is the one who hasn't shown improvement. And you're right. He would be hard to move. He's being paid $5 million this season and is due $5.4 million next season. And he can't make a shot. And he likes to shoot a lot. To be honest, I don't see the Lakers getting another guard. Looks like you're stuck."

West confident slump will end soon

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nba/players/65/2177.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2177) David West (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2177) thought a new offense would be good for him when Jeff Bower took over as coach of the Hornets, but after 16 games, West's 15.3 scoring average and 43.8 percent field-goal percentage are the lowest since 2004-05. West says he won't panic and that his shooting slump will end soon.
"My confidence is always going to be where it is supposed to be," West told The Times-Picayune (http://www.nola.com/sports/t-p/index.ssf?/base/sports-45/125938928068070.xml&coll=1). "I'm not scoring to the numbers that I'm accustomed to, but I'm not worried. We're trying to do some different things, but from a team standpoint, I'm more concerned about us moving closer in the right direction."

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nba/players/65/3241.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3241) Julian Wright (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3241) has played the small forward position this season, however he's not getting enough minutes behind starter Peja Stojakovic (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=813). Coach Jeff Bower is contemplating shifting Wright to the power forward spot.
"Wright is in the development stage, but we're looking for ways to use his strengths," Bower told The Times-Picayune (http://www.nola.com/hornets/index.ssf/2009/11/new_orleans_hornets_backup_jul.html). "Positioning is something we like with flexibility. Julian can provide different things, and he can play the four in certain schemes."

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nba/players/65/2801.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2801) Prior to their game with the Celtics, Antoine Wright criticized unnamed teammates for their lack of focus in preparing for games. According to the Toronto Star (http://www.thestar.com/sports/article/731944--feschuk-raptors-criticized-within-for-pre-game-attitude) Wright even appealed to team captain Chris Bosh (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1977) to deliver the message.
Wright told Bosh, "'Hey, you've got guys in here eating popcorn, joking around before the game. And we go out there and lose by 40. It's a direct result of what's going on before the game. Guys not coming in with the right mind frame."
Bosh agreed with Wright and said the issues will be addressed. "Guys get ready in their own way, but I think as a team we could do a lot to get better focused," Bosh said. "Just staying on each other and making sure we're ready to play. It's something we'll talk about."

http://a.espncdn.com/i/teamlogos/nba/med/trans/bos.gif (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/clubhouse?team=bos) According to The Boston Globe (http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2009/11/28/celtics_wallace_flips_over_flops/), when Tony Allen (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2367) returns from his ankle injury, J.R. Giddens (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3429) and/or Lester Hudson (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=3996) could be sent to the Celtics D-League team in Portland, Maine.
"I don't want to go to the D-league," Hudson told the Worcester Telegram & Gazette (http://www.telegram.com/article/20091128/NEWS/911280379/1009/SPORTS), "but if I have to, I will. ... It would probably be good for me ... but you never know."
"I think we'll wait and see," Doc Rivers (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1579) said. "Lester, J.R., one of the two, or maybe they'll stay up. It will really depend upon how Tony is playing and how many practice days we have."

Sheed rips refs and floppers

http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nba/players/65/883.jpg (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=883) Rasheed Wallace (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=883) was given his league leading fifth technical foul last night against Toronto and afterword he ripped the refs and those players who "flop".
"I got a technical tonight for saying Hedo Turkoglu (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=862) is a flopper," Wallace told the Boston Herald (http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/basketball/celtics/view/20091128td_off_rasheed_wallace_flips_over_flops/). "Everyone knows officials try to keep games close and that they keep scouting reports on guys. Let the Golden Child (LeBron James (http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=1966)) or the NBA Without Borders Guys (international players) do it, and it's fine and dandy."
"This game is watered down," Wallace continued. "It's watered down with all of that flopping (expletive). ... I just said that Turkoglu is a flopper. I didn't use no profanity, and Derrick Stafford gave me a tech. Ain't like it's the first time I said it. But everyone knows that he's a damn flopper. That's all that Turkoglu do. ... It's not like I dug my shoulder into him. He hits my shoulder on a pick and he goes, 'Oooh,' and he acted like I shot him."

Well the NBA appears to have a boring outlook for the next couple of years due to the Lakers dominance. Let's bring Horry, Shaq, George, Fox, Shaw and add fisher next year for the Lakers 3 peat championship retirement tour. We can retire them all at the same time. :tuYeah, that's the ticket.

Man, I can definitely tell that you're an old school poster. I enjoy your references to times and games back in the day. You have to remember that a lot of these posters are youngsters and do not have a clue what you're referencing to. That's why you get a lot of "what the fuck are you talking about" :lol

Horry was about the best non-all-star bigman a team could ever have. He was:

* an outstanding defender
* a good rebounder
* athletic as hell (even at the end of his career in San Antonio he was still throwing down poster jams every few games)
* had three-point range
* dirty
* completely unafraid of any situation, and cool under pressure

Big Shot Rob didn't luck into those rings. I don't know that he has anything in the tank anymore, but even in his worst season by far (2007-08) he was still a monster for the Spurs in game 7 in New Orleans.
