No news so far today. The last we heard was from McDonald last night.

Manu Ginobili (groin strain) did practice, clearing the way for a possible return against the 76ers. He is listed as day-to-day.

The Sixers don't do anything particularly well this season as a team except block shots (6th) and steal the ball (5th). Their turnover differential is top five but that will probably not be difference-maker versus the Spurs, the NBA leader in fewest TO/game (11.7).

While the Sixers are long and athletic in the front court, they don't defend the 3-point line well. The Spurs should be able to "get all-they-can-eat" (Seanism) from the arc tonight. The Sixers do hustle for second chances and their length has given the Spurs trouble in the past. Iggy and Young were particularly troublesome. If the Spurs work for rebounds like they did in the Rockets game and other recent games, they should win that battle in this game. The Spurs are currently ranked 8th in rebounds/game (43.14) and 4th in rebounding differential (+2.85).

As long as the Spurs can get back in transition, limit telegraphing their passes and force Philly to hit from the outside, they should be fine tonight.

I havent really seen philly except hightlights, but i would think not having andre miller, being really tough on the 76ers.

Rebounding is pretty much the key to every single game for the Spurs. As long as their defense is solid for most of the game, the rebounding battle usually decides the outcome. When they get fully healthy, I expect the Spurs to be the best defensive rebounding team in the league again.

No gimmes in the NBA.

If Spurs show up and continue to build upon what they've been doing, they should end the night with a nice 5-game win streak.

However, these are the games that like to creep up on a team that is comfortably on a roll.

Go Spurs Go. Drive for 5.

The Spurs definitely need to continue the momentum on D. Get some offensive rhythm
going for RJ. They need to call some set plays for him.

Hopefully, they don't let their guard down and curbstomp the sixers.

TIMMYD!
11-29-2009, 06:20 PM
I want to see RJ get involved and for us not to allow second chance points off of offensive rebounds.

Manu good to go, Mason is not (http://blogs.mysanantonio.com/weblogs/courtside/2009/11/manu-good-to-go.html)
By Jeff McDonald

Walked into the Spurs locker room earlier tonight, and was greeted with a question from Manu Ginobili.

"Do you know, is it official?" he asked me. "Am I playing tonight?"

We media types didn't know. A few minutes later, we asked someone who did.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich says, yes, Ginobili will make his return from a groin injury tonight against Philadelphia. But his appearance won't be much more than a cameo.

"If he got over 20 minutes, I'd be very surprised," Popovich said.

Ginobili has not played since straining his left groin at Dallas on Nov. 18.

Elsewhere on the injury front, the Spurs will be without Roger Mason Jr., who suffered a strained left hamstring Friday night at Houston. He expects to be ready for the Spurs' next game, Dec. 3 against Boston.

Manu Ginobili works on his shot about an hour before Sunday's game at the AT&T Center.

This team's depth has already proven to be a great luxury, allowing them to keep their head above water despite a rash of injuries early.

Tony is out? Let Hill run the show.

Manu is out? Well let's get more shots for Jefferson.

Mason is out? Oh, well good thing Manu is back.

While I definitely don't like the injuries early, it's better to go through them in November than in April. And this is where having the league's best bench comes in handy.

(If I may speak candidly though, this injury bug shit needs to quit. :lol)

Good news about Mason Jr

Darkwaters
11-29-2009, 07:01 PM
Everybody hates injuries. I don't want my team to play short-handed and it's not as fulfilling beating a good team when they can't trot out their best players. And it's even worse when a team's subs beat you.

I think we need to outlaw injuries in the NBA. All in favor?

Pop should stop trying to match the other team when they go small. He should wait and make them prove their small lineup can beat our big lineup. He always tries to match up and proves that the other team's small ball can beat our small team match up.
