NEW: Devin Brown makes Spurs' playoff roster
Web Posted: 04/21/2005 03:36 PM CDT

Johnny Ludden
Express-News Staff Writer

The Spurs included Devin Brown on their 12-man playoff roster this afternoon.

Brown has not played since March 21 because of a herniated disc in his lower back. He has yet to completely regain the strength in his right leg and won’t be ready to play when the team begins its first-round, best-of-seven series against Denver on Sunday.

Mike Wilks, Sean Marks and Linton Johnson III did not make the roster

I figure he can give up 23 points to him as do as good of a job as Wilks did the last time we played them.

Just like I would pick it. You have to have Devin on the roster, even if he's not 100%. He has earned the spot.

As long as it kept Wilks off of it.

To me this is a no brainer! They made the right choice.

oh, no, not hypothetical arguments again!

If Devin doesn't play in the Playoffs, then it was a bad choice.

If he plays decently at some point, good choice.

Doesn't surprise me really, since Wilks obviously did not impress Pop against the Grizzlies (4 pts, 3 reb in 20 min).

(of course, he actually played better than Parker last night, so who knows? Maybe Pop knows that Devin is getting better)

If Devin was out with a broken leg or something, then no. But he will be back in this series I think, limited minutes, but he'll most likely play. If (when) we're going to advance, Devin will be a valuable part of the team so I agree with Pop's picks.

Wilks was really only there for his defense, he would of been our best choice on Boykins, now Parker will have to log heavy minutes

Link?

Boykins best game against us, and our worst loss to Denver this season, came in the game where Wilks got his most minutes against Denver...

Wilks and our best games against him came when Wilks got DNPCD'ed...

Wilks stunk it up last night...did you not see the easy pass he missed when GRob's defender fell down? He practically threw it out of bounds.....GRob was ready for the pass because he knew he was open.....Wilks is not as good as people say.....his mistakes had been cleaned up by Duncan and Rasho during the year.

So you would make a choice based on one bench player on one team?

Wilks was here to keep up with Parker in practice. Any pt has been a result of TP's being injured or Beno sucking.

It's not only that...but Boykins and Denver destroyed us the only game Wilks got substantial minutes in...

This was a no-brainer. Wilks or Marks in a playoff game is suicide.

If Brown can play some minutes against Phoenix, he can help. Until then, anything he can give would be gravy.

Tony will be logging heavy minutes against Denver, but this was the right decision.

If something should happen to Bruce we'll be glad Devin is on the active roster...

And should we wind up playing the Heat in the finals...Devin can be invaluable being put on Wade.

Yeah, I don't know why it was even debated. Boykins is not Jordan, and Wilks is not Bowen. The matchup was severely overestimated.

Beno can't even get the ball up the floor with Boykins defensive pressure, much less stay in front of Boykins on defense. Just because boykins had one good game against wilks doesnt mean he's not best suited on our team to guard boykins.

So you would make a choice based on one bench player on one team?

No, but i realize Beno wont be able to hang with boykins. And tony will have to play 40 + minutes a game.

whottt
04-21-2005, 05:14 PM
The only game Boykins was a factor against us this entire season was the game where Wilks defended him....The other 3 games Boykins did next to nothing...including the game without both Duncan and Manu that we lost.

With the long 1st round, Devin has enough time to get well by the Phoenix series.

There is quite of bit of time for Devin to recover with 1st game Sunday, 2nd game Wed, and 3rd game Sat.

With the time between games and the commercial breaks during games Parker should have no trouble playing 40 minutes. Beno, Manu, Bowen can handle a few minutes on Miller.

Brown will be very useful down the road particularly against Seattle, Phoenix or Dallas

You don't set your playoff roster for one matchup against your first round opponent's backup PG. As stated, Tony will play heavy minutes, which is not bad since they seem to have plenty of time off between games.

exactly as it should be IMO

a boykins wilks matchup will be one by boykins every day of the week and twice on sundays

Boykins vs Parker, Barry or even Udrih most times will be won by us.

good choice. This player's composure when Spurs played the Lakers last season is outstanding. i hope he'll be ready to play before the 1st round series is over.

thanks, Pops! it's definitely worth the blood! :D
