Or rather, who should start along side Timmy, as either PF or C?

what the frick is wrong with the poll feature in Spurstalk? I've used it before, but now it's being a douchebag and won't let me add more than two options, and it tells me "option one has too many letters"????

Anyway, I was going to put in
- McDyess
- Blair
- Bonner
or Other
as my choices.

Poll or no poll, PF or C, it should be Dice.

Bonner seems to be perfect coming off the bench, Blair isn't a starter (yet?), Ratliff isn't as well, and Haislip and Hairston ...

I think you might've meant this.

Bonner brings energy/scoring off of the bench and plays better with our second team (not to mention, not having to guard other team's starters..)

Of course I meant Mahinmi, not Hairston. We're not in Oakland after all ...

Thanks anyway! :toast

I thought you were just making a funny over the incorrect pronunciation; bummer..

And if you're throwing caution to the wind and not worried about wearing the proverbial tread off the tire, It's 'Dyess.

I don't feel the need for 'Dyess to be the starter for the whole regular season and playoff, just make sure he's fresh and ready to go when it's winnin' time.:lobt:

Antonio McDyess. A larger issue than starting him is how much PT he should get. And there should never be a game where Matt Bonehead gets more PT than McDyess does. McDyess should be on the floor for most minutes when Duncan is out there.

Dice for sure.

Bonner is much more useful off the bench.
Blair is foul prone and is undersized.
Ratliff is too slow and limited offensively.
Haislip and Mahinmi wear suits more than jerseys.

...McDyess is doing great.

IMO, better than anybody else the team has had since Robinson.

san antonio mc dice! it makes sense all around, wait a minute.. if sheed is coming off the bench maybe dice should come off also since hes quick enough to guard the 3 and knows his former teamate like the back of his hand. and we start ratliff to keep our D in the paint. what do you guys think about dice on sheed?

Without question, McDyess. He is the perfect compliment to Timmy, and Bonner plays much better off the Bench anyway.

Blair for two resons. First, it gives Blair more minutes which is the one thing he needs. Second, it gives McDyess more rest which is the one thing he needs.

SpurNation

did we really go after lopez?

No. I was making a justification mention that since the Spurs don't have a Lopez type player to start at C and won't have that prototypical center unless they trade for one, McDyess is the best we have at this point for the position.

But it will be interesting close to the trade deadline to see what the Net's record will be like and maybe capitalize on a situation that might occur if they decide to throw it in early for lottery picks and FA next year.

Memphis did just that and look where Gasol landed...for practically nothing.

In terms of box score listing, McDyess. In terms of on the court, Duncan (which he already is). But that's all semantics.

What's important is what the front court rotation should look like down the stretch and into the playoffs. Duncan should be playing (this is all roughly, not exact) 36-40 mpg, McDyess should be playing 28-32 mpg, Bonner should be playing 15-18 mpg, Ratliff should be playing 12-15 mpg and Blair should be the odd man out. This small ball and playing two undersized power forward's together nonsense can work against lesser teams in the regular season, but come playoff time that simply won't get it done. His role will be subtle and his statistics mostly minimal (except for blocked shots), but the Spurs aren't winning a championship without Ratliff being a key cog.

Dice. he can pretty much play against anybody else. he isn't outmatched by anybody on any other team, which means we'll start off each game giving ourselves the best opportunity to win.

OTOH, Bonner is outmatched by size and strength, and Bliar is outmatched by Size and quickness. opposing teams, esp. the good ones, will probably have somone starting that can take adavantage of that offensively, which leaves McDyess as our smartest option. Ratliff is old. i don't think he can play starters minutes for a whole season.

Bonner and Blair and Ratliff are good situationally. Pop will have to play them based on who is out there for the other team and what we need offensively.

btw, this is where having Horry was awesome, because he could pretty much offer what Bonner did and more, and to an extent what Blair does. he didn't have any tragic flaw in his game, so you could pretty much brign him off the bench against anybody.
