David Robinson's Impact Lasting (http://www.nba.com/spurs/timeout/20secondto.html)
by Bill Schoening
When I asked veteran Antonio McDyess about David Robinson before "5-0" was honored on Sunday night, he never hesitated, "He's my all time favorite player."
McDyess, of course, is old enough to have played against Robinson so he had first hand knowledge of the Admiral's unique athletic ability and skills at both ends of the floor.
Robinson's contributions to the game, the Spurs and the San Antonio community are well documented, and it's great that he is so popular and appreciated in the Alamo City, but it's the example Robinson sets for the younger generation that may have even more far reaching benefits. The students at the Carver Academy can look forward to a brighter future because of the role model that has opened doors for them.
In the same way, the next generation of Spurs, players such as George Hill and DeJuan Blair, can see clearly now the path that has been paved for them by Robinson's example. Unlike McDyess, Hill and Blair never had a chance to play against or with David Robinson, but they can see the impact he has had, both on the court and in the community.
A Hall of Famer, indeed!
