April 21, 2005

NEW YORK (Ticker) - Philadelphia 76ers guard Allen Iverson, who led the league in scoring in April, was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month on Thursday.

Phoenix Suns forward Amare Stoudemire received the award in the Western Conference.

Much as he has been doing all season, Iverson did it all down the stretch to help lead Philadelphia to seventh place in the Eastern Conference playoffs and a postseason matchup with defending champion Detroit.

The perennial All-Star scored over 40 points twice, including 48 in a 106-103 victory over Charlotte on April 6 and 43 in a pivotal 90-86 victory at Indiana on April 15.

Stoudemire ranked second in the West and fifth overall in April, averaging 25.9 points on stellar 55 percent shooting. He also grabbed 10.7 rebounds per game.

Also considered for the awards were Chicago's Tyson Chandler, Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, Denver's Carmelo Anthony, Golden State's Baron Davis, Houston's Tracy McGrady and New Jersey's Jason Kidd.
