The days leading up to the holidays are a stressful time for me at work.

I do enjoy Christmas eve beginning at 6 and all of Christmas day because it signifies the end of the worst of the madness. Also I am always off from work then.

At the Spurs games, I love it when the Coyote dresses up in his Christmas tree costume.

I also love the Jim Carey version of " The Grinch" because I relate so well to him. :lol

I look forward to seeing the Chipmunks Movie: The Squeakel which comes out December 23rd.

Nothing wrong with being single during the holidays. Plenty of other single people to take advantage of. Some are especially vulnerable at this time of year, making them ripe for the picking.

I bet if a thread about, "what is most hated about the holidays" were to be created, it would be quite entertaining.

I fucking hate the holidays. I hate the crowds of people buying into the commercialization of Christmas. I hate the start of cold weather. I hate Christmas song (especially the ones talking about Jesus Christ being born like the one playing in the building I'm in right now - FUCK this song is brutal). I fucking HATE Christmas lights and I hate how people make a big deal about the Christmas lights on the River Walk. I mean seriously wtf is the deal with those? They look like some giant retarded went around and throw rows of lights where ever and they make SUCH a big deal over them. Who fucking cares that we have thousands of strings of lights that look like they were bought at the Dollar Store hanging all over downtown.

I kinda like New Years though. Its mostly Christmas I hate.

Oh but I love tamales.

My favorite thing is watching my favorite movie of all time "Christmas in Connecticut" with Barbara Stanwyck.

I'm pretty much of a Grinch. I like Christmas Day and being with family and food and presents. But I really hate the set up before and the tear down after.

I've never decorated for the holidays since I moved out of my parents' house. Don't plan to, either. Well, I may put up a string of lights in my living room once every couple of years but, other than that, I don't bother with a tree or any of the other stuff. I just don't care enough to bother.

I love Christmas, and this year will be really fun since we have our 20 m.o. grandson living with us. We've simplified things by just giving money to the grown kids, and buying for the 3 little grand kids. We went to the river walk Sunday, and it was gorgeous. Will be going to the Schlitterbahn light up, and most likely all the Hill Country Trail of Lights.:toast

My favorite part?

I've said before, my job is pretty damn lax. Most of the day I am surfing Spurstalk, occasionaly I have to work on a computer issue. I'd say roughly about 75% of the time, I'm being payed to surf here and play video games.

holidays? just about 90% of Southwest Research takes off from work, we still have to be there for network issues and upgrades and stuff, but for the most part we stay at our respective homes, not coming in for work, and get paid for it. We all live about 15 minutes away so if something does come up, we can be right there with none the wiser.

Double-time pay for Holidays while staying at home for the most part? fuck yeah! :lol

Nope. Never been married. I still have goals to attain before I reach that point in my life. I've learned from my married buddies (who are all at least 10 yrs older than me) to take care of what you want before that point :lol. So far I've got my own house and I've got my awesome car. Going to just turn 30 in March.

The last thing I need is a nice fat bank account (nothing major, just something to fall back on just in case) and, if I meet the right woman, a *FAIR* pre-nup. When I say fair, I mean what I own before any marriage is without any doubt mine. Cars, House, bank account and all.

Christmas is the shit. I'm a big sucker for christmas. I was going to start setting up my tree and shit tomorrow even though theres no chance anyone other than me will see it. It always just takes me back to the halcyon days of my youth when you get off from school and get to uber-play your video games for 19 hours a day...till your eyes bleed....surviving on tamales and soft drinks and junk food. Nostalgia rules.

Hhhhhhnnnnaturally if you go out to the mall or something it is a beating, but who fucking cares. Either you want to buy gifts or you don't. It's not like western culture just started commercializing christmas during our lifetimes. It's been like that since before most of us on spurstalk were born.

So my favorite part of christmas is setting up and decorating the tree.

What is your favorite thing about the holidays?
Random acts of kindness.

We have a "giving tree" at work. Names of children are on it with their ages, name, sex, and a preferred gift. I picked the tag of a 9 yr old boy named Jose that wanted a bike. Yesterday I bought a cool looking 21 speed dirt style bike with 20" wheels, and placed it at the tree.

Think he will like it?

I have a system that helps me deal with all the hoopla early so that I can focus on the holidays for what they really mean to me. The main thing I do is Christmas shop early. I was done by December 1 except for 1 item that came in on Friday. My gifts are wrapped, my cards are sent, and now I can take the time and effort to focus on faith and family.

I also like the smells of Christmas- a fresh noble fir tree; cookies baking; cinnamon...

Christmas...the best time of the year by far for me. From the day after Thanksgiving to Christmas Day is fantastic. I love listening to Q 101.9 for all the Christmas music.

For me it's just fantastic. Nothing compares to it.

A question I'm searching for an answer to this year. Normally, I enjoy the lights and the smells and time with family and the way more people seem to go out of their way to be kind and generous.

This year . . . it just feels like one never-ending rush to something. Rush to shop, rush to spend too much money, rush to this family and that family and better make sure everyone gets equal time . . . I don't even know if we'll put up a tree this year. SFIE hates the fuss, I won't do it until the house is clean (and boy is it not right now) and we'll soon be to the point of December where it feels pretty useless to bother with it since it will be up for such a short time.

My favorite thin about the holidays is going on my normal cruise vacation. One week over the holidays I love it, you can forget about, work, money, cell phones, drama, and NBA basketball for a week and on top of it all you make new friends. Great way to spend the holidays

I'm totally feeling the same way. Rush rush rush. We probably won't put our tree up either due to our cats. They just love to climb in it and knock the ornaments off...which usually end up in pieces on the floor. It's just not worth the hassle to me this year.

If you step back and remember the real reason for Christmas, it's much easier to step away from all the rush, rush, rush and the commercialism. You don't need to spend tons of money for gifts that your relatives either won't like or won't appreciate.

Spend the time with family, or helping those truly less fortunate - and make some lasting memories.

Remember: Jesus is the reason for the season!

if you just read the name of the "recognized holiday", you'll see that "Christ" is an integral part of Christmas.

there are so few of us out there because people want to commercialize this day, which is actually sickening.

i have no problems with gifts, trees, lights and decorations, food, family - none of that. i just have a problem with people lose focus on the true meaning of Christmas.

Actually, Christ should be an integral part of Christmas. Sadly, these days, that seems to be less and less the case. I'm not even Christian but the fact that Christmas has become more about sales and materialism than celebration of the birth of Christ sickens me as well. Just another reason why I'm glad when the holiday season is over.

Other than the fact that you have faith and I don't, we're essentially on the same page.

Many years ago, when my 2nd son was about 11 or 12, he had gotten a new bike. We lived in an apartment and we had locked the bike to the stairs; however, someone cut the lock and stole his bike. He was just heartbroken. I was a single mom, and even though I worked full-time, there just wasn't any money in the budget for another bike.

I mentioned it to my Sunday School class and asked for prayers that God would provide another bike because that's how Chris got to and from school. One of the guys in my class came up to me later and said he wanted to buy Chris a bike. I told Chris, and at first he said no, he couldn't let Tony buy him a bike. I explained to Chris that we had prayed for a new bike and this was God's way of answering that prayer. I also told him that if he wouldn't let Tony buy him the bike, he was causing Tony to miss out on the blessing of being God's instrument to answer our prayers. So - he went with Tony and got a new bike! It was such a special thing for Chris and something he has never forgotten (and he's now 28).

So, yes, I think the boy will love the bike and I hope it will make a big difference in his life. And I hope you're blessed as a result of your generosity!

I remember those days before I learned to say No. Even though it is hard, choose to do what you would like to do and realize that you can not please everyone. When I lived away, I even made the choice one year to volunteer to work on purpose, so that I could just stay home.
