Pure Fantasy: Hoosier favorite story? (http://www.mysanantonio.com/sports/spurs/Pure_Fantasy_Hoosier_favorite_story.html)
David Kendrick - Express-News
We’re a quarter of the way into the NBA season, and there’s plenty of news to break down for fantasy basketball owners. And, what better way to do so than with words from the greatest basketball movie ever made, “Hoosiers.”
Mike Dunleavy, Pacers SG/SF
“Welcome to Indiana basketball.”
Dunleavy, out since Feb. 8 with a knee injury, returned last week and put up 22 points in his second game. He was a fantasy star in 2007-08 and could cut into the minutes of players like Dahntay Jones and Brandon Rush.
Greg Oden, Blazers C
“I figured it’s time for me to start playing ball.”
He missed his first season in the league with an injury and missed 21 games last season. Now he’s healthy and contributing. While Oden is not a big scoring threat, he shoots for a high percentage, rebounds and blocks shots.
Ron Artest, Lakers SF
“You can’t score if you don’t shoot.”
Through November, Artest was attempting a career-low 10.1 field goals per game. Like the Spurs’ Richard Jefferson, Artest no doubt is trying to get comfortable in the offense. And, like Jefferson, look for Artest to shoot more before long.
Josh Smith, Hawks PF
“Don’t shoot the ball unless you’re under the basket all by yourself.”
Smith has shot only three 3-pointers this season, and that’s a good thing. Smith has never shot better than 31 percent from long range, and he would hurt his field-goal percentage by attempting so many — much like Houston’s Trevor Ariza now. Smith’s field-goal percentage this season is a career-high 53.5.
Ersan Ilyasova, Bucks PF
“What’s gotten into you?”
After playing for Milwaukee in 2006-07, Ilyasova went overseas to play the last two seasons. He’s back, and making an impact — 11.9 ppg, 7.9 rpg in November. Look for those numbers to dip with Andrew Bogut back, but Ilyasova is on fantasy radars now.
Elton Brand, 76ers PF
“Mister, you ain’t seen a ray of light since you got here.”
After missing most of last season — his first with Philadelphia — Brand has been hurt again this season. There have been enough good games to keep him off the fantasy waiver wires, but also enough struggles and injury issues to keep owners frustrated.
