just won the national championship at the Nike Cross Country Nationals in Portland, OR. Let me repeat that- the best high school cross country team in the United States is from Boerne, TX.

Has a San Antonio area high school team ever won a national championship (mythical or otherwise) in any sport? Just an amazing year for the Chargers, and an amazing performance today.

Congratulations to Coach Fulkerson and team. This team is as good at what they do as any high school team I've ever seen, in any sport. I know this is a high school football town, but how about some props for 2009 national champion Boerne Champion Chargers!

No offense, but there really is not a national champion in any high school sport.

Yeah, that's kind of what I was thinking. Was every state champion Cross Country team in attendance?

Going out and out running teams from all over the country is extremely impressive no matter what you call it.

Fair question. Actually, cross country may be the only high school sport that actually has a format to determine a true national champion. The best teams compete in regional events (sponsored by Nike) after their state championships (the South region was at The Woodlands). The top two teams, plus the top ten individual runners go to Portland. Boerne Champion beat out teams from all over the country.

Converse Judson is always raw in football. My dad used to coach there back in the late 80s early 90s when all the Friday Night Lights shit was goin down. He actually saw the Permian-Dallas Carter game live scouting for Judson (which was actually the semi final game, and was actually in DKR Memorial stadium, and raining, and a REALLY close game all the way through). Carter beat Judson in the championship game but had ineligible players so Judson got the win in the books

The only person Boerne, TX is thinking of right now is Hunter Lawrence. The pride and glory of Boerne
