View Full Version : A Longhorn Vote for Suh for Heisman

Ndamukong Suh never had a bad game. Certainly Colt McCoy and Mark Ingram had days where they disappeared (in Colt's case, thanks to Suh). Tim Tebow didn't play the full season. The only guys that brought it every single game were Suh and Stanford running back Toby Gerhart. Both teams finished with four losses, both led their teams to wins over four ranked opponents.
I give the tiebreaker to Suh because his signature game came on a neutral field against a team playing for the national championship. Gerhart's signature game was against Notre Dame at home.
As a defense as a whole, the Blackshirts of Nebraska were back in 2009. They allowed 20 or fewer points in 12 of their 13 games. Texas Tech scored 31 against Nebraska, but the Red Raider defense returned a fumble for a touchdown in that win. In games where Suh didn't rack up the tackles, he still pressured the quarterback plenty and made a difference on special teams as well. He ranked in the top 10 in the nation in sacks and top 15 in tackles for loss.
Saturday showed why a boy named Suh gets my Heisman vote.

Spiller should be there over Tebow.
I'm curious why they went back to 5 finalists? And since they do why the hell is Tebow there?? He did nothing this year statistically (considering the offense he is in) and he lost the only tough game he had all year (and played poorly.) Thats what makes people not like him, and it's not really even his fault.

they have a different numbers for different years
3,4 or 5

When was it 3? I don't remember that. Probably 2006 if there was a year of 3. I don't even remember watching the Heisman ceremony that year.

Suh is a man beast of the highest order, but I don't like giving the heisman to defensive linemen. They never have the ball in their hands, never have the pressure of having to make plays with the ball in your hands and the spotlight on you.
They basically look to overpower the fat fuck in front of them and wrap up the QB or RB.

Last year it was only Tebow, Mccoy and Bradford. 2006 it was 3, as well as 2005.

I don't know why anyone really cares about the Heisman, I'm sure the average person doesnt but ESPN just goes overboard with all that shit
year after year the best players don't win the award, it never fails
that being said McCoy does not deserve it

I've never cared about the award. I wasn't even that big a fan of Bush or Leinart in college. I was a big White fan. Shame he sucks now.

I don't care much for the award either. And for the record I think it should go to Ingram. I'd love for some big heisman candidate to one year tell them "No, I won't be in NY, I don't care about the heisman i'm too busy getting ready for my bowl game then the NFL combine/draft".

I hate to break it to you, but the best and often smartest players on the field are good linemen like Suh. Linemen on the offensive or defensive side of the ball dictate the game. The greatest quarterback in the world throwing to the best receivers in the world or handing off to the best running backs in the world make no difference if their offensive line can't control the game for them. This is a fact in every level of football.
And for a team like Nebraska, who had problems all across their offense all season, to be in every game they played, including the one against Texas, is a testament to how much of a difference Suh made all year. It didn't matter if he was double-teamed or chipped by the running back, he made Colt McCoy look more like Chris Simms than Vince Young in Dallas.
The Heisman trophy has become a joke over the year EXACTLY because they ignore some of the most important players on the field, basically anybody that isn't a quarterback or running back.

no mavsfan. media and past winners vote on who should be the winner
usually the winner plays on a team that is highly ranked
but then again this is #20000 on the things i actually give a shit about list

you're not breaking shit to me junior. I've got more experience with football than you'll hope to have. No shit linemen are important, but the pressure to perform, the sheer amount of detail that goes into the position does not begin to compare to the QB. He has the ball in his hands virtually every play and has the pressure to win on his shoulders more than anybody except the head coach. That's a fact, and why the heisman is mainly a QBs award in most years.
I can't believe they haven't changed the name of this thing to the Tebow yet.

So you're saying that linemen don't feel the pressure to win and that because they don't have the ball in their hands, they're not as important? So when a running back or wide receiver don't have the ball in their hands, they're not important either?
How can you defend that statement and claim to know more about football than I can hope to have?
And the Texas Tech offense was held to 259 yards in their game against Nebraska, less than the Huskers could muster with a weaker offense. The Red Raiders rushed for 25 yards on 25 attempts in that game. The reason they were able to pull away was because the defense scored a touchdown in that game, when Suh wasn't on the field.
I'd give the Heisman to McCoy. Most NCAA wins and highest completion percentage is ass tons better than a stud DE on an otherwise bad team.
IronMexican
12-10-2009, 01:41 PM
Stud DT. And he's more than a stud. Heisman isn't a lifetime achievement award. And they would be fucking terrible without Suh. Anybody could throw those 5 yard routes that McCoy does. mookie's the only one that see's the light out of all you UT fans.

You don't comprehend shit I can see. Here's the difference between what i said and what u comprehended, pay attention because I really hate having to point out subtleties like this that should have been understood the 1st time...
No matter how good a DT is, and Suh is the best, the pressure to win and make plays, the sheer effect on the game, does not come close to the QB. Not that they have no pressure or aren't important, I never said that. The reason Nebraska wasn't a contender is because they have shit for a QB. With a top notch QB that team wins more than 8.
The effect the QB has on the field - positive or negative - will always be more than any other single player on the team because he facilitates the entire offense.

Houston has a top-notch QB in Case Keenum and was the better quarterback in every game the Cougars played, so how come they lost three games? All three were to conference teams who have forgettable quarterbacks.
Florida had a far superior quarterback in the SEC title game against Alabama, but the difference was the line play. Without Carlos Dunlap, Florida couldn't get into the backfield and Alabama's O-line opened up big holes and did some great blocking on a designed screen that broke the game open.
Houston isn't undefeated and Florida isn't playing in the national championship because there's WAY more to football than how good your quarterback is. Just ask the New England Patriots, who despite getting Tom Brady back this season, are about as good as they were last year because they lost key defensive players.
Ingram will win, and McCoy won't finish in the top 3.
Well... we know McCoy will get at least one first place vote because Buck Harvey already said he voted for him. But you're probably right. I think Ingram will win and McCoy will be 3rd or 4th.

McCoy will get some first place votes alright. Suh will get the most. But Ingram and Gerhart will dominate enough with 2nd place votes to land in the top 2.

it's not a team award. Auburn fucking shut down Ingram to the tune of 30 yds and a 1.9 avg. Auburn rush defense ranked 80th nationally. Gerhart was far more consistent. Can anyone even remember one signature play from Ingram? Now I have to listen to Bammers compare Ingram to Bo. Give me a fuckin break
