Free-agent third baseman Pedro Feliz has signed a one-year, $4.5 million contract with the Astros.

The deal is the Astros' third major transaction of the winter meetings.

The Astros on Wednesday obtained right-handed reliever Matt Lindstrom in a trade with the Marlins and reached agreement on a three-year, $15 million contract with another right-handed reliever, free agent Brandon Lyon.

Feliz hit 12 home runs and 82 RBIs last season with the Phillies.

Being a Giants fan having watched Pedro a lot, you're getting an above-average fielder with a nice arm who can't hit anymore. His problem in SF was that he never saw a pitch he couldn't hit, thus he stayed around .270 the whole time here. Doesn't look like that's changed since he left for the phills. His power has also slipped considerably. He was around 20 HRs a year in SF, not so much with Philly.

Overall a good player defensively, but "meh" with the bat. He's also quiet, so don't expect a lot of quotes. Good luck to both parties

He should fit in nicely with Pence and Lee then. They love swinging at shit pitches.

As said above...above average range and glove with an elite arm. Frustrating offensively but has a knack for the clutch hits. GW RBI in the world series last year, and tied up game 4 this year in the 8th with a solo homer off Joba. Overall, you can do A LOT worse at 3B...good as the 6th or 7th hitter, nothing more.

His HR numbers should climb due to the Crawford Boxes

that's a good point. There were mumblings here in the bay area that his HR production slipped because he got off the roids. Pure speculation though.

He's an all-around good guy, by all accounts. Can play other spots besides 3rd. I think I remember him catching in emergency duty for the Giants, either that, or he was assigned as the emergency catcher in case something happened. I'll have to check that out. Definitely can play almost any position. He could hit better if some BC would teach him patience/pitch selection, although I guess if it hasn't happened by now than it never will.

A solid pickup for the Stros

The Astros only go after declining older players.
