to be fair, I hated rap music so I couldn't be considered a thug. I also never wore socks with sandals.

I don't think anyone should feel ashamed of how Italians are portrayed, the guys are good kids for the most part. The girls, except J-wow, are drama mommas...but that basically reflects reality show chicks in general. Snookie is such a dumb broad, I'm surprised women aren't ashamed of her portrayal of women.
