And here is my mock...

I am assuming no trades, but I expect both SF, MIA, CLE, and Dallas all to try to move down with Washington and Philly trying to move up

2. MIA - Ronnie Brown, RB
3. CLE - Demarcus Ware, DE/OLB (surprise pick of the day!)
4. CHI - Braylon Edwards, WR
5. TB - Carnell Williams, RB
6. TEN - Antrelle Rolle, CB
7. MIN - Troy Williamson, WR
8. ARI - Aaron Rodgers, QB
9. WAS - Carlos Rogers, CB
10. DET - Derrick Johnson, LB
11. DAL - Shawne Merriman, DE/OLB
12. SD - Marcus Spears, DE
13. HOU - Alex Barron, OT
14. CAR - Cedric Benson, RB
15. KC - Pac-Man Jones, CB
16. NO - Thomas Davis, SS/OLB (I think he moves to OLB for the Saints)
17. CIN - Erasmus James, DE
18. MIN - David Pollack, DE
19. STL - Jamaal Brown, OT
20. DAL - Mike Williams, WR (falls inexplicably)
21. JAX - Marlin Jackson, CB
22. BAL - Mark Clayton, WR
23. SEA - Elton Brown, OG
24. GB - Charlie Frye, QB
25. WAS - Jason Campbell, QB (Skins reach, what else is new)
26. OAK - Fabian Washington, CB
27. ATL - Bodney Poole, FS
28. SD - Roddy White, WR
29. IND - Travis Johnson, DT
30. PIT - Heath Miller, TE

The Skins Draft Wire: Updated 12:30 PM
By Rich Tandler Site Editor

What's happening in the draft and what effect will it have on what the Redskins do? This will be updated throughout the afternoon, so check back frequently and refresh your browser.

12 Noon

The Niners are on the clock, as they have been since January. The Skins don’t have the ammo to trade all the way up to #1 even assuming that the 49ers really are in a frame of mind to deal it. They’re fielding calls from every team, we’re being told breathlessly by Sal Palantonio. That hardly qualifies as “man bites dog” news. What team at #1 doesn’t field calls in the minutes leading up to the pick?

Looking for last-second clues as to what might happen, turn to the major DC daily papers. The Post article, by Jason La Canfora, is all about trading up. The Times article, by David Elfin, mentions the possibility but focuses on other scenarios.

Now, given the recent animosity that has existed between the Post and the Redskins organization, which one do you think is getting better information?

12:30 PM

This is the key moment here. A trade for Edwards either happens here or it doesn’t happen at all. If Miami doesn’t trade the pick, they’ll probably take Edwards. Even if they pass on Edwards, Cleveland won’t. StatCounter - Free Web Tracker and Counter

Skins Draft Target: Justin Tuck Premium Story
By Scout.com Staff
Date: Apr 22, 2005

If you're not inhaling the draft smokescreens the Redskins are putting out, you might believe that they would consider taking a defensive end in first round on Saturday. We've looked at a few of the more prominent ones here lately; now let's take a look at a dark horse for the #25 selection.

first off, it looks as if a trade involving Buffalo Bills running back Travis Henry is a certainty. But he may end up landing with the Philadelphia Eagles, who are dangling a third-round pick.

Exactly what I was thinking.

"I wanted to make a new start". Yeah right. He just didn't want to be compared to Ricky.

scott. Do you really see Mike Williams falling that far? That won't happen. I hope it does though. Philly would most likely trade up to 20 and get him.

One thing that may have played a difference for Tennessee is Pacman Jones' ability to return punts and kicks. Antrel Rolle shouldn't slip past Arizona at the eighth pic

ducks
04-23-2005, 12:46 PM
Pacman Jones to Tennessee at the sixth pick is definitely a slight surprise. Most teams felt Antrel Rolle's playmaking ability had moved him ahead of Jones as the No. 1 cornerback

Here comes Arizona. If they select a RB, it most likely means that their dealings with Travis Henry fell through.

Well, nevermind. All the good RB's are gone. They'd be reaching for one now.

With Antrel Rolle, Arizona adds a nice piece to the 12th-rated defense from 2004. He is a major hitter and a playmaker like Ty Law. - 2:03 pm EDT

One interesting thing about Rolle: Redskins wide receiver and fellow ex-Miami Hurricane Santana Moss raved about Rolle when we talked to him about their summer workouts.

scott
04-23-2005, 01:14 PM
Well, I pegged the Skins correctly... Danny boy's first reach of the day... next will be the other Auburn guy... Jason Campbell.

ps: I think there is a CHANCE Mike Williams drops to 20... we can only hope.

I can't believe the Vikes passed on Mike Williams. Their fans were obviously shocked as well.

scott

I think Williamson is a better fit for the Vikes... Mike Williams isn't built for the dome, he is a NFC East type of WR...

Joe Harrington has no more excuses now...produce or GO!
this is probably canceled out by the Often chronically injured Carlos Rogers.
if they keep all 3 wide outs healthy the Lions have a great set of Wideouts easily

Obviously a value pick. But that's fine with me. Now the Cowpokes can't draft him.

My first thought was they drafted Williams to trade him. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Green Bay? hell Rodgers might fall to the 2nd Round!!!
cause NONE of the guys going now need a QB they're all Set, Chiefs, Seahawks, HOuson, Cinncinnati ...Packers at 24 need an heir to Favre

Maybe Dallas if he falls farther? I say maybe a chance he goes in the 2nd round!!

IceColdBrewski

From Gary Horton in ESPN's draft chat:

Aaron: Where do the latest rumors have Travis Henry going, and what will the Bills get in return?

Gary Horton: (11:53 AM ET ) Just got off the phone with Arizona and it appears to be a dead deal there. The concencus is Henry is going to the Eagles. They will give up a third round pick for him. That would be a great deal for the Eagles and probably forces the Cardinals to now take one of the three RBs in the first round. Tampa was also in play but Henry will be a Eagle by the end of the day.

Wonder when/if this trade is going to happen.

I don't see him falling to the second round. There's always a few teams out there who will pick based on value alone regardless of needs. Someone will draft him to groom him and trade him if nothing else. Similar to how Philly did with A.J. Feeley.

Dude said he would rather forfeit a win against Oklahoma and win the Heisman trophy. What a winner. :rolleyes

The interview they did with him after he was drafted was downright painfull to watch. He's either not to bright or he's very camera shy.

no he didnt, not in any words even close to that
i'll let you find the quote if you want to argue

he was upset in the interview because everyone was scoffing him this week saying he was slipping, the 3rd best back, people were over-comparing him to ricky
he's a big time player, who put up unreal numbers

Easy. I can see you're a little defensive about your boy Cedric. I'm just telling you what I heard on my XM radio a couple of days ago. Maybe you're right. Maybe it was bullshit blown up by the media. Nothing worth getting in a pissing match over.

I'm sure Cedric will make a fine pro for 4-5 years. But he has a lot of wear-n-tear on them wheels.

Well the Miami Dolphins for one.

Benspur
04-23-2005, 06:08 PM
You bet!

I'm a Dolphins fan and I just don't want another Ricky Williams type of player.
Benson has exactly the same kind of attitude as Ricky, namely a pothead.
The real question is : Would you draft a real workhorse, capable of carrying the ball 30+ times a game with relative efficiency ? Or would you draft Brown, a proven RB (although you could question his durability), with perhaps less talent but who has a good attitude like and who won't let you down at 28 or so at the end of a season ?

Dolphins management adequately answered this question.
