Kobe Bryant injures finger, goes to locker room (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=txlakersbryantinjured&prov=st&type=lgns)

Kobe Bryant has returned to the Los Angeles Lakers’ lineup after spending part of the second quarter in the locker room with a small break in his finger.

The Lakers said Bryant has an avulsion fracture, in which a tiny fragment of bone tears away near a tendon or ligament.

Bryant hurt the top joint on the index finger on his right hand while reaching for a pass along with Minnesota’s Ryan Gomes late in the first quarter of the Lakers’ game against the Timberwolves.

After getting tape on the finger from trainer Gary Vitti, he returned to the game briefly in the second quarter before going to the locker room for the rest of the half.

Bryant returned after halftime with the finger fully covered in tape, hitting a 3-pointer and two more baskets in the opening minutes.

Bryant is the NBA’s second-leading scorer with 28.8 points per game.

The thing I don't understand is why nobody ever goes at players with injured fingers..just slap down hard all game..it's the easiest thing to get away with, you can just act like you're going for the ball..

you would have seen it all the time in the 80's and 90's or with guys like Bruce Bowen..

Kobe Bryant is still playing injured to this day and will play injured for the remainder of the season. He has a dislocated finger on his SHOOTING HAND. He injured it half-way through the season.
When asked about it after the game he said "it hurts now but I just have to learn how to play with it and adjust to the pain."

[[[Well, I just came back from the chiro. I asked her if she thought there was any chance I have a stress fracture since it's taking so FREAKIN' long to heal my knee. She looked at me sort of funny and said "Well, periostitis basically IS a stress fracture, only it's worse because the tendon attaches to the bone right there". Ouch! She called it an "emulsion fracture" where the tendon pulls the top layer of bone up.
Lovely, eh??!

Whatever... I've pretty much gotten used to not being able to run (not that I like it). I just hope I can do spinning/elliptical/water running stuff soon so I don't get fat and out of shape.

So is there ANYTHING else anyone would suggest other than RICE, which I've been doing, and doing, and doing? Acupuncture? Yoga? Knee replacement]]]

Lakers win 11th straight, Bryant injures finger (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap;_ylt=An04.KmfuTmQGVHDtChB92C8vLYF?gid=200912 1113)
By Greg Beacham

Just about everything broke the Los Angeles Lakers’ way during the first quarter of the regular season—everything except that fractured finger on Kobe Bryant’s shooting hand.

Bryant scored 20 points despite wearing a splint on his index finger in the second half, and the Lakers wrapped up the generous portion of their schedule with their 11th straight victory, 104-92 over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Friday night.

Bryant hurt himself while reaching for a pass late in the first quarter, and he played through it briefly before leaving in the second quarter to get X-rays and a halftime splint. The break isn’t his first avulsion fracture, in which a small piece of bone tears away near a ligament or tendon.

Although Bryant believes he’ll be fine to play on the Lakers’ five-game road trip starting Saturday at Utah, his injury was the only real blemish on the final win in an outstanding start for the defending champions, who improved the NBA’s best record to 18-3 while finishing a cushy season-opening stretch with 17 of their first 21 games at home.

“It’s pretty painful,” Bryant said. “I just tried to play through it. … You just get used to it, that’s all. It’s just a different technique to shoot the ball with this,” indicating the soft-foam protection on his right index finger.

It’s too soon to tell how the injury will affect Bryant, who was dogged by a nagging pinky injury for most of the past two seasons. The NBA’s second-leading scorer appeared to play with relative ease after the injury, using his left hand more frequently in Los Angeles’ ninth straight victory over the Timberwolves.

“Kobe is so skillful that he’ll still find a way to control the game,” said Lamar Odom, who scored 13 points. “I wouldn’t be surprised if he came out and shot the ball like his finger wasn’t hurt at all. He can just switch to the left hand and be ambidextrous. He’s that good. I’ve never seen him have trouble adjusting because of an injury.”

Indeed, Bryant took several shots and made several passes with his left hand, although that’s not unusual for the multitalented former MVP.

“It’s not something I can avoid,” Bryant said in comparing the injury with his pinky problems. “The other one was on the knuckle. This one is on the shooting finger.”

It's past time that the league stop kissing Bryant's (and James', for that matter) ass and do what any logical, competitive person would do give the circumstances: accidentally on purpose grab, pull, hack and whack at Bryant's broken finger every time he exposes or drives the ball. I was disappointed a year and a half ago when no one took advantage of his finger that needed surgery. Seeing as how nothing was done then, I don't suspect anything will be now. If this were probably any decade previous to this one, something like this would go without saying.

I suspect you're right and this is what pisses me off most about today's NBA. Not to sound like an old foggy (because I'm not), but if this were Jordan with a broken finger, particularly in a playoff game, teams would be doing just what I described in my previous post as a way to try and eliminate their stiffest competition. Nowadays, everyone is so caught up with slobbering over everything Bryant and James that this would never happen. They'd rather help him up from the floor after a fall, or smack hands/hug and joke with him immediately after the game, laugh on the bench while getting blown out or dance on the bench while blowing someone else out, than do that. I don't get these guys.

Culburn369
12-12-2009, 09:05 PM
A union makes strange bedfellows. It's almost mandatory. They have fought as a union long and hard to accomplish what they have. They only did it because they stuck together and refused to be torn apart by management. You don't have to agree with their "creed", but, we only get the one side. They won't turn against one another and do something that will prevent another union member from "earning his wages." Sure, in the heat of hammer & tong battle there is always the specter of outrage, but, that is at the source of heat. What you're suggesting, TD, is that they (teams) conspire before hand to "take Bryant out." No union member will ever do that.

Earning his wages? This isn't the NFL; contracts are almost always guaranteed. The perception is that Bryant is one of the two best players in the league. Big deal if he were out for an extended period of time or every the duration of this season; he'd still unquestionably have a job next season. Namely, the exact same one he has now. He's already made over $100 million and he'll make well over a $100 million more before his career is up.

It's not about "turning on him". I'm not suggesting some overtly obvious suspend-able act. What are you talking about? The game was supposedly much more physical in every other decade. The culture of it has changed, but don't act like this is the type of thing that didn't or wouldn't have gone on in other eras.

Jesus Christ, people still believe in this broken finger bull-shit? Smart up. It's just drama and it has been going on for years. Most of the players in the league are playing through minor injuries. In the same night Kobe "broke" his finger, Devin Harris also retired to the lockerroom because he hurt his finger and came back to the game. He was playing the Pacers - Danny Granger spend the entire season playing with a plantar fasciitis. The inflammation was so violent that he actually tore his plantia fascia and now has to take some months out. Do you know how painful it should have been? I'm 99% sure that Brandon Roy is also playing through a plantar fasciitis. NBA players enduring injuries is the rule, not the exception. The difference is that nobody cares to report this and if it's leaked nobody makes a drama about it. The Kobettes, those hysterical shemales who love to think about how Kobe is such a "warrior" and "really tough" while they engage in their onanism sessions with a dildo and a Kobe poster, and the sissified Lakers press feed each other with this nonsense and the general public gets sucked into their hype. It's like the "Kobe is with the flu" routine.

I have no idea how there are people still buying this shit. Broken finger? It's still the one that he's been delaying surgery for 2 years or so? He'll probably get it amputated in the off-season....

kobe was shooting close to 49% this season. you can expect those numbers to go down now

LOL!

No, you can expect those numbers to go down because Kobe was never an efficient scorer. He's a career average 45% scorer and he never came close to shoot 49% for a season. Yeah, he's going to regress to the mean, like pretty much happens with every other player who starts the season with a hot patch.

That's what you said, TD. That is an "overtly obvious suspend-able act." If you "pull, hack and whack" Bryant's broken finger he won't be "earning his wages."

good luck proving that it's intentional as long as basketball is a contact sport

That about sums up my thoughts on that.

Again, this is not the NFL; Bryant's salary is guaranteed. You act like the Lakers would cut him (if he were to miss an extended period of time) and he wouldn't recoup a cent of his remaining salary, nor would any team sign him after that.

Is him not being able to earn another contract and make money money what you're getting at? Because if it is, that's fucking nonsense. It's a finger; not a serious knee injury that could be career threatening. As near as I can tell, you have no point whatsoever and are just being a typical Lakers homer.

Team's have 41 road game a year, they go from 100 degree heat to 20 degree heat overnight sometimes.... constant weather and climate changes and travel. By the time the season's up, id say about 90% of NBA players have played a game or two with a bad flu.

It was reported as a avulsion fracture right after he got the xray at haltime. You actually think he's faking it? Come on.

The only peole that get overly dramatic are the media idiots that blow everything out of proportion in one direction and the Kobe haters that do exactly the same in the opposite direction. Morons on both end of the pendulum. Like you!

**** BREAKNG NEWS****

This just in!!! Conspiricy theorists have confirmed that Stern and Kobe have colluded and Kobe is faking the injury. While some have insisted that Kobe does this for the drama and attention, it has been substantiated that the collusion and injury were created to allow the remainder of the league to feel as if they actually have a chance for home court and subsequent title.

Of course I'm a homer... What gave it away? My troll in a Lakers uni? :bang

Lakers Will Play Kobe’s Injury Day At A Time (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=tsn-lakerswillplaykobesi&prov=tsn&type=lgns)
SportingNews

Lakers shooting guard Kobe Bryant’s broken right index finger could take at least four weeks to heal, and the team could evaluate him on a game-by-game basis until mid-January, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Bryant was injured in Friday’s game against the Timberwolves. He played in Saturday’s loss to the Jazz and shot just 7-for-24 from the field—though an upset stomach also could have been a reason for the subpar performance.

"I think he can compensate for it," coach Phil Jackson said. "I think he’ll learn how to shoot around it."

I'm not at all a liar; don't make things up. When I first heard of this injury (I forget where), it was in fact reported to be broken. Later, I found out that that was incorrect. That's not my fault.

You can be a fan of a team without being overly biased. To have no bias would be unrealistic.

Jealousy? The team I go for has the best player of the decade and they're also the team of the decade in all of pro sports. What the fuck would I have to be jealous about? Typical delusional, retarded Lakers fan.

It has nothing to do with it being Bryant; if it were James I'd be saying the same thing. The only difference is (I think we can all agree on this) Bryant's team is more of a threat to win the championship than is James'.
