During the first half of the Orl/Pho game, Grant Hill made a great block on I think Rashad. The block was clean and he got such a good hold of the ball that rashad fell down trying to keep the ball.

Van Gundy calls it clean and asks the other announcer. The other seemed very reluctant even after replays and eventually Jeff gets him to say 'Amen'.

I used to complain that he whined too much, but he seems to be one of the few announcers to speak his mind and I'm liking it. It was just amazing to hear the other guy waffle and try to defer on any such thing.

no, you can only be fined if you are employed by the NBA, they are employed by ESPN.

The gray area is local TV guys because they are employed by a NBA team

Maybe the other guy fears the NBA calling up ESPN and complaining about him/pressuring them to let go of announcers that cause trouble... I just couldn't figure out the other announcer's obvious reluctance to agree with a clear play.

Doubt it. I think the only time they get in trouble is by saying something inappropriate like the the Clipper duo.

JVG would actually be losing money on every game he covered, if that were the case.

I'm pretty sure Bill Laimbeer got Td up once when he was on the Pistons announcing team.

wow at your sig Bob :lol

JVG can get repremanded though, but i doubt it b.c he was a prominent NBA coach that got fined heftily for questioning the league

The other announcer was Mark Jackson, and the reason why he was reluctant to side with Van Gundy on that call is because he's a Suns hater.

Oh. I wasn't sure who it was and figured it was someone that was afraid they might not get another gig if they lose this one.

I thought it was Mike Breen who wouldn't confirm Van Gundy's opinion. No?

This season has been below average officiating-wise. I've seen literally 10+ calls just from the Spurs where players would swipe the ball completely clean and get called for a foul.
