Man, what a way to shoot your team out of the game.
Here me out here for a minute. Im not hating on Kobe. Ive always been fair to him but
Kobe shot 7/24 (1-9 3FG) the most ever taken by a Laker tonight. Thats freaking 29%!!!
The rest of the starters were playing great ball and very efficient at that.
Gasol 6/11
Artest 6/10
Bynum 5/9
Fisher 6/8
Thats 23/38=608%!!!
Why the hell did kobe kept shooting when
A. he has a bad finger
B. has a stomach illness
C. His teammates are shooting great
I hate to say it but this "He's a soldier" "he's a warrior" Bullshit is getting old. You're not Jordan and you're not going to replicate his perfomance in Utah when he played with a fever.
What a selfish POS. Lakers win streak is on the line. He could've fed the ball to his teammates and round up with 10 pts and 15 assists and still be great but the guy instead forced the issue. And they said this guy has the best IQ?

Kobe's demons will always be toward the surface. He's not a contented person. You can see that win or lose. He thought ringin' without Daddy would make still the roiling, but, he was mistaken. So, when he is resisted, (in game) or (injury) he responds with angst & aggression. It's petulance and rank immaturity and the wounds of Colorado.

This is the kind of game where I question all the talk about Kobe's great b-ball IQ...and the coaching staff's for that matter :lol . The Lakers have two bigs that can pretty much score when they want. They should have been tag-teaming Gasol and Bynum on Utah's undersized interior defense all night instead of jacking up three after three.

Pau Gasol wants more touches
He made a plea for more action in the post after being asked how it felt to collect 20 rebounds for a second consecutive game.
The Lakers might have too many players in the post. Andrew Bynum likes to camp there, Kobe Bryant spends plenty of time there, and Ron Artest was aggressive in the post against Utah.
On Saturday, Gasol thought he was the odd man out.

Wrong. He was talking about the double teams being sent at him forcing him to pass the ball out. Pau gets plenty of touches in the post,he was fed all night.
This is what he was referring to:
"they come and double and they force us to make that extra pass. Guys have to knock it down from the outside so it opens up for us too."
How are you going to post the article but not even read it?

Calm down kid, I posted the article title and quotes from the article - I didn't mention anything about the article itself.
Pau was touching on the fact that teams are sending doubles to him and Drew so it's gonna be up to our perimeter guys to make shots.
(and if this is a recurring problem where they can't, management may assess the issue)
But in the end, our bigs need to be fed the ball and Pau deserves more touches/shots.

Would have been a perfect opportunity for the other guys to try to win a game for the Lakers but Kobe went "Kobe" once again. This is the frustrating thing about Kobe sometimes. He goes out trying to do something incredible to prove to critics how great he is, to have some kind of "Michael Jordan with the flu" type of performance. It's selfish and arrogant and only hurts his team. I also put blame on Phil Jackson for not taking him out at some point. If you're Kobe, how the hell do you take 9 three point shots with a fractured index finger on your shooting hand? That's just stupidity.

Certainly questionable coaching. Sometimes coaches have to stand up to the player, even if it is the best player on the team.

All that being said. Kobe should be smarter about this, BUT part of his "warroior mentality" (LOL) won't allow him to concede anything. It's part of what makes him great ...

Jamstone normally agree with you. But I don't like the MJ refferences here in this thread. MAYBE...he is trying to be like Mike who knows and as a coach I agree he did not play "smart". I just dont like all of the pscho-analysis (this not at you in particular Jamstone or even Crichards) that goes on with sports nowadays...we are not mind readers and few here have psych degrees. I try not to put player's state of minds in my posts because I don't know what they are thinking and neither do most of yall ...
Say Kobe shot poorly, should of passed more and cost his team the game. Why he did this I dont know but he does this from time to time and this is not Kobe at his best ...or most efficient.
My point is many of these type of threads spiral out of control when MJ is brought up by Kobehaters or Kobe lovers. SO sometimes I bring up Mj's negatives (fights with teammates, gambling, his high volume shot games, and womanizing his bad games) to balance out the Mj propoganda....but I won't here ...cuz either way Kobe was wrong....just no need to over analyze the shit IMHO
Side note feel the same about Tiger. This "oh he wouldnt have done this if his dad was there stuff ...Tiger had his dad most of his life (many men don't) He made his choice (marrying early) made his mistake (cheating and getting caught) I dont overanalyze him. Now if we want to discuss why "men" cheat or that this story is overblown cuz he was with "white woman" let's discuss but none of yall "know what's in Tiger's head" either.
All right off my chest. Flame on!

Of course, he won the ring fair and square. I'm not trying to question Mr. Bryant's basketball ability because he will go down as one of the greatest. I just couldn't understand why he still has to ball hog ( 7/24 shooting ) at all when he has teammates who can score at will. This Laker team is ridiculously stacked and everybody knows that Kobe is the Lakers' alpha male, he doesn't have to prove it by shooting more shots than everybody else.

He ain't perfect. He's a wounded animal. Resisted, he acts out. A "broken finger" is taken personally, out of his sphere of control...Bryant is driven from his "safe place" where he controls it all...out into the unknown where he maniacally searches for the control again via the 24 shot attempts.
Colorado changed his body chemistry, his core mental state.

Why is this so shocking? Bryant is nothing but a scorer - always has been, always will be.
His basketball IQ consists of "Put Ball in Basket." Most of his passes are bailouts, and even though he has insane talent around him, he's still the same ballhog he's always been.
If you replaced Bryant with LeBron on the Lakers, nobody could touch them. But with Bryant, they're vulnerable because of Brant's deficiencies as a complete player.
Complete player...LeBron James averages 27-7-7 for his CAREER, people. It is in LeBron's DNA to look for other people first. It is a team sport, and LeBron is a team guy - if a teammate has an easier shot, that teammate gets the ball 90% of the time. With Bryant, that teammate gets the ball only if it is physically impossible for Bryant to get his shot off. Tell me that's not true, Laker fans.
Bryant plays the game as an individual as always has. It's as though he's playing one-on-one, fighting against himself. Colburn's take is very accurate - the guy is simply a bitter person who is not content, and he plays that way. It's blatantly obvious. It's also blantantly obvious when Bryant tries to put on the "I'm so loose and jovial" act for the cameras. Please.
Also, James is shooting 36% from three-point range this year, while Bryant is shooting 30%. But did that stop him from jacking up 9 threes with a injured finger? Of course not.
Another thing you ALWAYS see with Bryant is him scoring points during garbage time. The games are over, yet he's in there getting his numbers night in and night out. Guys like LeBron and Duncan would be on the bench resting, because they don't care about numbers. But Bryant is out there tunnel-visioned in 15 point games with three minutes left, still jacking up threes and banging into scrubs so he can get yet another whistle and shoot more free throws. It's embarrasing to watch, yet he's done it for 12 years now. Laker fans call that the warrior mentality. What a joke. It is nothing more than a selfish player doing whatever it takes to get his.
Culburn369
12-15-2009, 02:12 PM
But, James is no sage. Kobe will see the fire and head to it, because he knows there is salvation to be gleaned there, and nothing to lose. He lost everything in Colorado. James will see the same fire, but, let Kobe go to it alone while he stays back, everybody in front of him, eating french fries and practicing with baby powder at home.

Kobe is such a fucking pussy. He is a huge asshole inside, with a stick up his ass because he thinks his shit smells better, but he's afraid to show it because he knows people will hate him even more like they used to.
So he puts on this ridiculous "I'm down" show, when it's really fucking obvious the guy is uncomfortable and would really rather sit alone in a corner rather than hang out with the guys.
Isn't that what Bryant did for most of his career? Laker teammates came out and said that Bryant would never spend time with teammates, but rather just walk around alone and act like he's God or something.
he tries his damndest to believe his own MJ hype, and the worst thing is HE CAN'T BACK IT UP. He's overrated like a mofo.
ugh, can't wait to see this turd out of the NBA.

He did back it up. At least to this point in MJ's career. Bryant is ahead of the bar set by MJ.

Bryant is playing in his 14th season.
Jordan played a total of 13 seasons as a Chicago Bull.
By this time, Jordan was retired and cemented as the GOAT with 6 finals mvp's, 10 scoring titles, 5 league mvp's, dpoy, never missed an all-star game in 13 seasonsetc...
Bryant? 1 final mvp, 1 league mvp, 2 scoring title, 0 dpoy, missed all-star games
bryant already failed. he's in overtime now in extra seasons.

Bryant has gleaned his 4th at an earlier age than MJ.
I don't do the other razmatazz, Heat. It's doorstops, pretties and bupkis.

People wipe their ass with 'age' accomplishments because Bryant entered the NBA at 18 years old
Seasons played is where it's at.
Bryant = in 14th season
Jordan = already retired in 13 seasons as a Chicago Bull
Bryant = failure to live up to the hype

I am not one to prop Kobe much. Never have. I am about the Lakers........complete.
However, there comes a time to step in say things that shine light on what needs justice.
You guys in here like MiamiHeat all over Kobe like flies on caca. I get it. You can't stand the guy. He's not the most likeable guy I understand but don't call out the guys game will ya? Kobe is just wired in such a way that makes him or he wants to portray as complicated. Nobody in here is his shrink and all your babble is nothing more than speculation on his demeanor.
Does Kobe shoot during garbage time?. Yes. Does he like to cush his stats? Yes. Does he not pass at times? Yes. ...and it goes on and on. The one thing you can't call Kobe though is a conformist. He will win at whatever cost. Is Lebron the ultimate team player? Probably so but as pure as a shooter he is I don't think he's got it in him like Kobe does to "will" a victory.
There are just some intangibles that players have that are either postive or negative forces for their respective teams. In other words, Kobe fits the system in L.A. for him to do what he does.
Just my take.

I'll give you that. Kobe learned from Michael Jordan that hard work is very important. Everyone knew and used to talk about how Michael Jordan was the first guy to arrive at the gym, and the last one to leave the gym. Everyone used to say how MJ was the hardest worker in the NBA.
so I give props to Kobe for learning that from him. Kobe does work hard.

False. If that were true, he wouldn't have been crying in the locker room after Shaq won the 3rd Finals MVP award, out of jealousy that he didn't get one.
If that were true, he wouldn't have shot his team out of the 2004 Finals trying to be 'the man'.
If that were true, he wouldn't have demanded so much money to force Buss to pick between him and Shaq, and he wouldn't have helped run Shaq out of town. They could have easily won 2-3 more rings in 05-08.
If that were true, he wouldn't have shot his team out of the 2008 Finals. Learn to pass to your 50% FG shooters in guys like Gasol, instead of taking more than twice the amount of shots than Gasol and Odom COMBINED took.

Kobe has won one ring as the best player in his team after 14 years in the league. That's basically Hakeem Olajuwon territory, but he still comes short.

...and I'll give you that; Kobe and Shaq easily had 2-3 in them. You will never get a argument from me regarding that.
Kobe may want to cement himself as the greatest in the entire game but as far as am concerned he will be one of the greatest Lakers. I've never, ever bought into the MJ vs Kobe argument. Basketball is to broad of a game to pinpoint just one guy. If that were the case Kareem Abdul Jabbar should be the greatest of all time for his sheer scoring. (I mean ultimately that's what any basketball player wants to do..score as much points as possible right?)
Kobe is great for the Lakers NOW. Look at back at Lakers history. It's always been about tandems. Wlt, Jerry, Magic Kareem, Kobe Shaq. without each other none of these guys would have won squat.
Waste of breath MiamiHeat. Channel your energy to the simplicity of this game and just enjoy all the talent.
This ongoing argument about MJ and Kobe is tiresome really. They are both ONE OF THE GREATEST. Period. That's where it should end and where I get off this circle jerk.. :toast

No.
But that's the kind of stuff a Lakers fan believe, I'll give you that. They never knew better. I pity them.
"It wasn't a matter of Wilt versus Russell with Bill. He would let Wilt score 50 if we won. The thing that was most important to him was championships, rings and winning," says former teammate John Havlicek about Bill Russell on ESPN Classic's SportsCentury series.
