Carlisle: A Win Should Be Like Intercourse (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news?slug=tsn-carlisleawinshouldbe&prov=tsn&type=lgns)
SportingNews
We thought the Mavs would be good; we just didn’t know if it would be third seed good, or eighth-seed-in-a-strong-conference good. At 18-7, and humming along with a real plan, it’s looking like the former. They’ve been especially adept at winning close games.
But close wins can cut either way—pulling them out is a sign of true grit, but a real stud farm should be more reliably running away with things late. To this end, Rick Carlisle delivered some baffling remarks to reporters yesterday, which will presumably be expanded upon in the locker room.
From DallasBasketball.com (http://www.dallasbasketball.com/fullColumn.php?id=2344):
Rick Carlisle offered an eloquent addition to The Official Basketball Dictionary And Sex-Education Manual when the coach described his Mavs’ penchant for making a difficult victory (like Monday’s 94-90 win over the Hornets) out of what should’ve been easy (Dallas was up 21 early but committed a mind-numbing 23 turnovers).
“We need,’’ said the coach of the 18-7 Mavericks, “to not always make hard work out of sex."
I’m eagerly awaiting further explanation of this from Carlisle, but allow me to give it a try. Winning a game is like sex. I don’t know what that makes losing a game into—unsuccessful internet dating, maybe—but I get that parallel. So then for the rest, you have two options: Work hard, make things unnecessarily difficult, and end up exhausting yourself when you could be just enjoying the sure thing, or, well, riding it out and putting yet another notch on the bedpost.
I can only home that Carlisle was thinking something a little less sexist, maybe even involving Tantric practie. Until then, though, that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

I heard that on the radio and did a double take. It was pretty suprising, but Carlisle is always working blue, the guy cusses all the time in interviews too.
Sex...it's like winning a basketball game. It involves teamwork, usually 20-30 other men...and afterward you're tired and sweaty so you hop in the shower cause you feel dirty.

Basketball games are like sex. It should be quick, easy, painless. Skeet then sleep. When you actually try to please the woman, it's a difficult task. Let's not make hard work out of sex. Just stick, bust, roll over, sleep.

He showed his personality plenty to the Pistons and Palace staff. There had been a lot of reports that he was a major dick to everybody. That's why he was fired. Bill Davidson didn't like him because he thought he was a dick. Larry Brown becoming available was basically a good excuse to fire Carlisle. It certainly wasn't about his coaching with the Pistons. He did a really good job coaching in Detroit.

Yeah, I remember those rumors. But he didn't show us that side of him while he was here.
