I think most Americans agree that the price we pay for drugs is outrageous. We can get the same drugs in Mexico for less than half the cost. The measure to allow drug imports failed.

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB126093494955393151.html

This government bill does not include insurance portability where insurance companies from across the state can compete with each other thereby bringing premiums down. Nor does it address tort reform and lowering prescription costs by allowing drug importation.

It's just more and more government and more and more spending.

What a joke. :bang

This was part of the deal that Obama made with the pharmaceutical industry (http://spurstalk.com/forums/pharmaceutical%20industry.) in order to get their support for the bill.

Mr. Dorgan and Sen. John McCain (R., Ariz.) said the measure could save consumers some $80 billion over 10 years if they could buy their drugs from other countries directly via the Internet or mail order.

President Barack Obama campaigned in support of drug importation during the 2008 election.

Murderous, deceitful, scamming BigPharma corps screw over The American People once again. yawn

Corporate (cartel) power ($$$) is unassailable, impervious to desires and benefits of The American People.

Dean is bailing on health care reform, effectively saying it has been gutted, neutered by corporate power, and recommending not passing it, since he thinks passing is worse than not passing it (doing nothing).

Do you agree with Dean and Mrs. Huffington, boutons_deux?

obama said he would allow for imports and generic drugs and then he bailed. it was a horrendous sell out to pharmaceuticals (and hardly the act of a "socialist").

So now socialists are in favour of free-trade?

So now socialists are in favour of free-trade?Why not? It's a more effective way (for the state) to get money.

Why not? It's a more effective way (for the state) to get money.

Because free-trade implies no interventionism. Why is it a more effective way for the state to get money? Because it promotes the creation of wealth? In that case one would need to assume that's the point of socialism. But it isn't.

So now socialists are in favour of free-trade?Why are drugs cheaper in other countries in the first place?
